Midnight at the Movies and Harlem River Blues by Justin Townes Earle. So sad to hear of his passing at such a young age. What a talent. RIP. He was amazing, and I can’t believe he’s dead. I’ve listened to a bit of his father’s new tribute album recently.

The Dirty Nil, who sound like The Replacements and have song titles like 'Wrestle Yu to Husker Du', but somehow sound nothing like The Hold Steady

Weird Tales by Golden Smog. They're from Minneapolis, and members of The Jayhawks, The Replacements, and Soul Asylum played in the band; I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the non-punk Twin Cities sound.

Gladie, the other band from Augusta Koch of Cayetana. Just discovered them today via Dan Ozzi’s newsletter and they’re fantastic. And they have a Weakerthans cover.
Spotify tells me them, Jeff Rosenstock, and Laura Steveson are ‘bubblegrunge’ so I guess I like that?

Sam Coffey and The Iron Lungs - if you're looking for something influenced by Cheap Trick, Thin Lizzy with a bit of Springsteen tossed in. Wild Pink's new album - A Billion Little Lights Aaron Lee Tasjan - Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan! is well worth a spin Camp Trash's EP more 90's influenced rock

I've also been going back and forth a lot between Julien and THS over the last week. both excellent records. "bloodshot" is my favorite thing right now

Thanks to John K for the Kiwi Jr recommendation was looking for something new in an indie sound to listen to in between ODP Very Bishop Allen meets Pavement with maybe a dash of the go-betweens

Besides lots of ODP - new ones from Cassandra Jenkins (great!), Julian Baker as others have said, Mogwai, Wild Pink, more of Christian Lee Hutson and also Better Oblivion Community Center (because I’ve played so much other Phoebe Bridgers stuff recently so needed some different tracks while still listening to her!). Mountain Goats from last year still in rotation too

After a recommendation on here Kiwi Jr Cooler returns definitely gets the nod of approval here Best indie pop ive heard for a while for fans of they might be giants, pavement, go-betweens Kiwi Jr Cooler returns cracking album need to go and check out their first next Intelligent funny lyrics great hooks not a weak track on the album Nashville Wedding definitely owes a debt to Rod Stewart’s Maggie Mae tho in a good way

Yep the Kiwi Jr album is great. I was listening to a recent pod but can’t remember which where CF had recommended the album to Franz and Franz was saying he listens to it while running a lot. He liked the way the tracks were organised more like a setlist that ramps up in the second half

I mentioned this on the FB group so some of you might have seen discussion there, but I feel like a lot of you would really enjoy the Canadian musician Joel Plaskett. (Note that if you look for him on Spotify, some of his work is under his solo name, some is listed under "The Joel Plaskett Emergency." Lots of very clever wordplay and referential lyrics paired with some simple-but-compelling rock/folk arrangements. The "Ashtray Rock" album from '07 is a good entry point, and I'm also a big fan of his "3" series (three albums released as a set, called "1 of 3", "2 of 3," and "3 of 3".)

I’m going through a George Harrison phase. Mostly the self titled album from 1979. So underrated. Sure, All Things Must Pass is the masterpiece but it’s not like he didn’t release anything of worth after he’d recorded most of the songs he couldn’t get on a Beatles record. Living in the Material World and Cloud Nine are both excellent too.

I’ve listened to a bit of his father’s new tribute album recently. I really like that Steve Earle tribute record. I think his version of Champagne Corolla is just great. It’s rollicking in all the right ways. Last Words is the one that gets me though. I kinda knew what to expect by the title and it being the new one he wrote himself but it’s kind of uplifting too. It’s a beautiful song that brings me to tears every time I play it.

Iron Maiden. Lots of Iron Maiden. They were the first band I ever went to see on my own with my friends on Bruce’s supposed farewell tour so they will always hold a special place in my heart but I don’t listen to much metal these days. Then I watched the Scream for Me Sarajevo documentary about Bruce Dickinson’s post-Maiden solo band playing a gig in the middle of a war zone. I highly recommend that documentary but I’d stick to Maiden circa 1982-1986 for the tunes!
