Recommending Niki and the Dove, especially the songs:
Lost UB, Scar For Love, & Ode to Dance Floor.

fontaines dc - a hero's death I just gave this a spin for the first time. Very good. Looking forward to seeing them in Cardiff next May... if gigs are back on by then!

I currently have gigs for Fontaines DC, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs and Doves, all at the Barrowlands next April and May. I can't see any of them going ahead at that time, but maybe I'm being pessimistic as we've just had much of lockdown reimposed in Aberdeen...

I’m feeling a bit pessimistic about these gigs going ahead too. I’ve got a few for the autumn/ winter I’m expecting to be rearranged but holding out hope that the Nick Cave and Fontaines D.C. tickets I’ve got for May time will happen. If the Jason Isbell gig that’s been postponed for a year until next November doesn’t happen I think I’ll cry. We’ve gotta keep everyone as safe as possible so I’ll understand but going this long without live music is already getting to me. THS and Morrissey in March seems like an eternity ago.

I’ve been listening to Elastica’s eponymous debut album a lot. It’s that CD that’s always in the car going to gigs and we all agree is great. Much like the The Hits 1 compilation by Prince was to me and my housemates in Manchester some years back. I’ll check out the new Furs record. You both sell it well!

Wait there's a new Taylor Swift out and I didn't know about it??? You would think I was in isolation or something. Oh.... Yeah. Well, she only gave about 16 hours notice before it came out It’s a wonderful record. Very cozy sounding, more suited for fall than summer. Great storytelling throughout the album. “Betty” is a fully realized teen romantic comedy.

Bruce’s new lockdown radio show. It’s on Radio 2 in the U.K. so will be available on BBC Sounds. New York City Serenade in full at the moment. The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle is a classic. Underrated in his glittering canon if you ask me. Now he’s playing The Boss by James Brown and all is right in the world.

Midnight at the Movies and Harlem River Blues by Justin Townes Earle. So sad to hear of his passing at such a young age. What a talent. RIP.

Kevin Rowland’s much maligned My Beauty album. I’ve had a promo CD version for years but now I get to own it on pink vinyl and it’s still amazing, especially now his version of Thunder Road is included.

The new Mountain Goats album. His best in a while. I like the entire album, but I keep coming back to Get Famous, which with Craig's voice on top of it could have been a soul-y b-side from Thrashing Thru The Passion.
