So, I'm a musician myself and I'm new here so I hope this isn't too self-serving, but as a massive, long-time Craig Finn and HS fan, I can't help but think perhaps some of my fandom has influenced my style. I figured there might be a chance that y'all would enjoy my first album. My name's Steve Fletcher and the LP is called "Songs from Island Avenue" and it's streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, etc., etc. Or go preview it for free on bandcamp. I borrow a little from Craig's and (early) Springsteen's way of sing-speaking at times. The recordings are very barebones, and strictly made up of me and my acoustic guitar, so if you're into that type of thing, go check it out! Welcome friend. No shame in self-serving; a good many of us here are musicians and my pal Stringer set up a thread for just this sort of thing: Shameless Shelf Promotion ThreadRe-post your stuff there amigo, might get a few more listens.

Mostly songs by Mancunians after Monday's atrocity. A bit of Oasis, Elbow, The Smiths, Joy Division etc. and I have it on good authority that the debut solo single from Liam Gallagher ('Wall of Glass') is dropping in the morning. Can't wait.

Real Estate. Very Byrds sounding. Which is nice. Quite enjoying them. Teenage Fanclub tribute act or not... Man and the Echo are without doubt my New Favourite Band.

Dan Auerbach’s Waiting on a Song LP. As we come to the end of the year I’m convinced it’s the best LP of the year. I love As You Were by Liam Gallagher but he’s been my hero since I was 15 so I’d listen to him fart in a cup for 50 minutes and declare it a masterpiece so it doesn’t really count. As much as I love We All Want the Same Things, I’m not convinced it’s the best record of the year, though I do think God in Chicago is my favourite song of 2017. It’s special. As good as Entitlement Crew is, especially with Franz being back, it’s still not God in Chicago. That song blows my mind. However, as a complete album Auerbach wins. It’s better than any Black Keys LP for me. The guests (Eddy, Knopfler, Prine etc.) are perfectly used, and never superfluous. More importantly, the songs stand up and say hello. I ask for no less, and no more. Buy it!

Check out "(untold pretties)" from Patterson Hood's Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance, and see if you don't hear God in Chicago, at least a little bit. So I'm on topic with the thread, I've been listening to Low Cut Connie's Dirty Pictures Part 1, Drive-by Truckers' American Band and The Mavericks. And a bunch of other stuff.

i'm hooked on that fucked up album. i'm pretty sure it's now my favorite album this year and my favorite album of theirs. sounds to me like they finally pulled all of the threads of their sound together to make an album that only they could make. the new jade hairpins 12" is cool, too, which i'm pretty sure is just some other songs that they recorded while making the new fucked up album.

Sharon van Eten, Seventeen Superb. Like Future Islands meets Stevie. Sounds good. I’ll have to check it out. She’s been announced high up on the Green Man line-up for this summer. There’s not a lot that appeals to me so far (Father John Misty, Idles, Meic Stevens, Steve Mason, Bodega, plus a couple of others) so was thinking of giving it a miss but it’s potential finds like this that often make me change my mind!

Spanish Love Songs. They sound like the Smith Street Band or The Menzingers or the Lawrence Arms. It’s what’s sometimes called ‘orgcore’, after Punknews.org, which loves these bands. It’s all gruff, melodic, heartfelt punk. Vice claimed it all started with our old friends the Dillinger 4. Whatever it is, I can’t get enough of it. THS technically aren’t part of the subgenre but half the bands they’re associated with are. Like Spanish Love Songs are touring with Pkew Pkew Pkew, who worked with Craig....
Now i’m listening to Captain We’re Sinking, another orgcore band who’s song Montreal sounds kinda... familiar:
She got to the part about the people and the exodus She’s stuck there with her skeletal frame saying “Yeah, but don’t forget about the rest of us.” You’re drunk off wine but you’re sobering up with bread I’m not sorry for the things I’ve said Well, I don’t blame you, no not anymore 'Cause I will save you just like before

They only released one LP but it's a hell of a record.
