I've finally made my peace with the fact that, lottery win notwithstanding, I won't catch BAGiA live, this year at least, so I'm listening to it again. Here's hoping we get an internet link to watch one of the shows live or there's a good bootleg made available soon after. I'll wish it happy birthday on October 3rd.
To the regiment, I wish I was there!!

Just getting into Listener. Basically poetry/spoken word over music. This song is beautiful.

The new, as yet unreleased, Annie Hardy record "Annie Hardy Rules". It's a heartbreaker and quite removed from Giant Drag's nü-grunge sound. Unfortunately, as so often happens, personal trauma has resulted in a classic album. The emotional centrepiece of the album, 'Mockingbird', is one of the most special songs I've heard in a long while.
To cheer myself up I've also been revisiting The 'Mats back catalogue after reading some great excerpts of the new Trouble Boys bio in last month's Mojo magazine.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fURYmOkKWjgI can't believe I'm doing this to you all guys... I can't tell if this band is completely vapid, super clever, or both. I love them and except for Against ME! in November, this is shaping up to be the most anticipated concert of my year.

Hahaha they'd definitely be fun to see live! Excellent at what they do but not really my thing 99% of the time.

American Band, by the Drive By Truckers.
It's a great album. Can't stop listening to "Ramon Casiano", but the whole album is fantastic. Seeing them in February.

Just checking out The Front Bottoms' latest album since they're playing in Glasgow soon and this song sounds ridiculously THS-like. From the guitars in the intro to the lyrics in the chorus, to the keys... it sounds almost deliberate.

Run The Jewels. Damn, they are growing on me. Yes! I'm a a big fan - just giving the new one a first listen today. They're perfect for listening to before I've got to do stuff I'm not that amped about. I've been enjoying the new Japandroids, Bash and Pop and Laura Marling songs this morning too.

the new RTJ record is really really good. i wasn't sold on their first record but the 2nd was a huge improvement and this new one is great too. especially those last two songs.
most of what i've been listening to lately is conor oberst/bright eyes records, NIN's reissue of "the fragile" (and the accompanying "deviations"), and THS b-sides.

I just bought the first one on vinyl, after really digging both #2 and #3. Coming from the last two, the first one sounded great as well. Not as focused and sharp, but definitely good. Besides RTJ, I'm mostly listening to new single tracks by artist I love: Craig FInn, Japandroids, John Olav Nilsen og Nordsjøen and the debut single from a project of a friend of mine, Dreaming Dark City - that track is amazing, actually.

So, I'm a musician myself and I'm new here so I hope this isn't too self-serving, but as a massive, long-time Craig Finn and HS fan, I can't help but think perhaps some of my fandom has influenced my style. I figured there might be a chance that y'all would enjoy my first album. My name's Steve Fletcher and the LP is called "Songs from Island Avenue" and it's streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, etc., etc. Or go preview it for free on bandcamp. I borrow a little from Craig's and (early) Springsteen's way of sing-speaking at times. The recordings are very barebones, and strictly made up of me and my acoustic guitar, so if you're into that type of thing, go check it out!

stagecoachinferno.bandcamp.comgreat band with a local following in Louisville- It's heavy metal, but with a western theme instead of fantasy. Really, fantastically tight and strong. Also, Gorillaz put out a new thing today or so- it wasn't as good as I hoped.
