If anything "modern" punk was a repudiation of bands like The Who and Zep. The first punks for me were The VU.

Which makes me think--- If i got a guitar when I was poor and played poorly, and now I am rich but still play poorly, can I still be a punk? And at what moment does a punk who makes money become not-a-punk?

I totally agree. Music has nothing to do with your wallet. It has to do with your soul.

Hmmm..interesting concept. I remember Joe Strummer saying he wanted The Clash to be the biggest band in the world. I am guessing he knew money was involved. Springsteen (and I aways thought of him as a "punk" in 1978) said he got into music for the "girls and money". I dont know many bands that tour for free. I used to see Tom Verlaine at CB's waiting to get paid. Money allows musicians to make music as opposed to work in mailrooms. Music Good Money Bad No Money No Music.

Music Good Money Bad No Money No Music. well i don't mean that money never matters. money ALWAYS matters. so i guess its when the money makes a difference? like, i don't really picture springsteen heading home to a mansion at night, buying thoroughbreds for his kid (which is the truth). i just kind of picture a guy going home to a suburban house like mine and popping open a beer after work. and he doesn't make too many appearances in gossip/society/general celebrities doing fabulous things pages. people got pretty pissed when he married that model/actress. i don't think of bruce as punk rock, but he's a decent example of letting the money matter. i mean, patti smith has done quite well for herself, but i've never looked at her in recent years and thought "wealth".

You need to drive over to Rumson. Bruce's barn/studio makes my HOME look like an outhouse. And he may have some one pop open a beer FOR him. And I always thought of Darkness as Bruce's punk album. When he walked out on that stage in 78 he was pissed. Patti Smith has done well for her self but if anyone has maintained a punk mentality its her, and its not even a "punk" mentality, its got more in common with a hippie mentality.

i got this a month or so ago, but i dunno that it's a "band tattoo" exactly. i think of it more like a reminder. a needed reminder. i tried to shrink them in photobucket, but i don't think it worked. sorry.

I remember the sketch for that! I'm admittedly not much of a tattoo guy, but that looks sweet!

Yeah, I remember the sketch on the old board. Came out well and I like that it's a bit different and incorporates the symbol into a wider design.
