hello, first of all, i just want to say that being a part of this makes me so happy, words can not explain. there is so much love within this board, and its exciting. everyone is soooo different, yet we are all unified through our common love of an amazing band. melikes. anyways... as the subject suggests, i am in need of new music. and i would like everyone's help. also, i would like to get to know more about everybody. so. if you could please let me know: a. the song that best defines you as a person b. your favorite cd to dance to c. one new cd/artist you think everyone who enjoys music should check out.
i hope im not being too demanding. hahah.
my answers: a. happiness is a warm gun - the beatles (b/c it doesnt make much sense, but its still a beautiful song, and thats how i feel about me sometimes) b. midnight vultures - beck c. only by the night - kol (my favorite album released in 2008, hands down, no question, love these boys, been a fan since the beginning...sigh...)

Fun stuff!
a. "Rotation of Crops" -The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers -I just found out about this band recently and I am absolutely in love with this song. I'm a pretty upbeat guy so this song is in direct contrast of my personality but boy do I love it.
b. "Rock With You"-Michael Jackson -I don't dance but this always gets me groovin.
c. "Midnight Organ Fight"- Frightened Rabbit -My new favorite band! I think fans of THS would really like it.

After some long iTunes browsing:
a. the song that best defines you as a person Beck - Jackass b. your favorite cd to dance to Weezer - The Blue Album c. one new cd/artist you think everyone who enjoys music should check out. Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride (Granted I only got it two days ago, but it's left a big impact on me) I omitted THS from the list because you clearly know them.

a. That is a really difficult question, I had to look deeply into this... Weezer - My Name Is Jonas (No, my name isn't actually Jonas.) b. Not a dancer, but if I had to pick, I would go with Midnite Vultures aswell, it's my favorite Beck album. c. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend (I know it's almost a year old, but still.)

1. "Nobody Knows Me at All" - The Weepies - I'm fairly mellow and don't care much for hype. 2. Don't dance much but my foot starts beating to anything Jamiroquai. 3. Kings of Leon - Only By the Night is what I'm listening to other than THS.

Man! How come I keep forgetting that came out this year! I change my third option to this, if it wasn't for THS and LFTR PLLR, the Mountain Goats would be my favorite band.

a. the song that best defines you as a person b. your favorite cd to dance to c. one new cd/artist you think everyone who enjoys music should check out. a) "Miss Misery" by Elliott Smith, obvz (song title tattooed on my neck) b) anything by sElf (preferably Ornament & Crime) c) Mother Mother, O My Heart -- click now click now! Warm welcome to our ranks, Ms. sportfishing. We are an eminently loving (and lovable, if I do say so) lot. a. "Rotation of Crops" -The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers -I just found out about this band recently and I am absolutely in love with this song. I'm a pretty upbeat guy so this song is in direct contrast of my personality but boy do I love it. !!!!!!!!!!!! How did you find out about P&T? One of my all-time favorites, criminally underappreciated. You can download a lot of their b-sides here: click, then click Music -- there's an EP on top, and more b-sides all the way down to the bottom. "Lisa" and the "Billie Jean" cover are unstoppable. But don't listen to them if you're in a good mood. Because they are CRUSHINGLY sad. Maybe even more than their other songs.

a. I'm going to go with Postal Service's "Such Great Heights", because, to me, it represents going above that which people expect of you and refusing to lower your own standards/expectations/goals. b. I dunno. Boys & Girls in America, I suppose...Well. Yeah. That's my decision as of right now. c. UH, THIS IS A HARD ONE KTHX. Rufus Wainwright, definitely. I'd recommend Release The Stars, because I really enjoy it.

nice to meet you, sportfishing. ever heard of this guy named jay reatard? you may like him too. ;D This inside joke translated well (surprisingly) and became a favorite amongst my coworkers to shout out whilst high-fiving. I have tried so hard to put it on a shirt, but I couldn't get the menace/humor of it all no matter how many exclamation marks/umlauts I throw on it, though I'm pretty sure photoshopping a bleeding trout being pulled by Jay's guitar isn't too hard. A: "Bayani", Blue Scholars B: Sam Cooke Live @ The Harlem Square Club, 1963. I dare you not to jump and dance from the joy of it. C: "See You In Solid", Night Marchers. You just can't stop rocking with any band with John "Speedo" Reis.

How did you find out about P&T? One of my all-time favorites, criminally under appreciated. I'm not quite sure how I found out about them. I have tons of free time at work and I usually just read about random things and I guess one day I read a NY show review for Prayers and Tears. They sounded like a band that I would really like so I downloaded 'Psalterie'. I was so blown away that I ordered 'The Mother of Love Emulates the Shapes of Cynthia' the next morning. I couldn't agree more with the "criminally under appreciated" assessment. I mean there are bands that I listen to and can understand why they aren't more popular but Prayers and Tears have such a full and emotional sound that there is no reason why they aren't one of the biggest indie bands out there. I mean they are the perfect marriage between Death Cab and Bright Eyes. Oh and thanks for the EP info. It will be downloaded this evening.
