DIG THE TRACK!!
There's more snarling guitar on this song than on all of ODP. Sounds like the boys got some new effects pedals to play with.
Hope I can score tickets for The Black Cat.

Wasn't sure about Sideways Skull at first, it's a bit much to take in on the first listen, but it's already really grown on me. Some killer guitar parts and Finn at his funniest! A nice change of pace from the darkness of his solo material. Still not keen on the bongos or whatever in the instrumental break though.

Exciting! Also, one of the songs has the same name as my band! The Birdwatchers? That one sounds the most band name-y!

Tim Hope you scored tickets too! Would love to there to be some kind of DC meetup or something. Will be my third THS show and my partner's first - the pandemic live stream shows converted her.

Really digging Sideways Skull. It does sound a little muddy but it's a kind of muddy situation. The angry guitars rule, love Craig's lyrics as always.

I'm really surprised that there's been no comment on here about the latest track Sixers, which was released on streaming last week. Has everyone moved to a new site and not told me!
As for Sixers, to me it sounds more like a Craig Finn song than a Hold Steady song. That's still a massive compliment rather than an insult though...

There is a Facebook group, 'The Hold Steady Positive Posting' that is very active. Sixers is really great. I agree in that it's like a Craig Finn song but with loud guitars and emotional piano aka everything that makes THS great. Really loving it

Did someone actually say that in the group? That would surprise me. Positive Posting is about the only reason I even go to Facebook any more. It's silly fun and I've met a few very cool folks there.
Now the Watford FC in the USA fan group on FB? Ooof. Bunch of negative nancies there. Then again, we're really good at giving up points at the death, so that's to be expected.

I said there was nothing positive about Facebook (as a general rule.) It’s generally a bunch of lawless bellends being horrible to each other. I would far prefer to discuss things Hold Steady related on here than on a Facebook page (largely because I deactivated my Facebook account) but if people enjoy it then I see no problem with it. Each to their own. I guess too I always feel like this is The Unified Scene. Disagreements, debate, joy, reports, spare tickets all included. I’ll maybe change my mind when Craig writes a lyric that includes “positive posting”. Until then I’ll stay here. As I say, each to their own, positivity always.

On a side note I wouldn’t worry too much about being a Watford fan. As a Cardiff fan I’d much rather be 6th than 21st in the Championship! It’s hard to drum up any positivity with Cardiff at the moment. We celebrated our first win in 16 games on Tuesday like we’d won the Champions League!

Yeah Positive Posting is pretty good for a Facebook group. I resisted joining for a long time (cos I'm old and prefer this page!). Talking of all things championship, as a Sunderland Fan I'm getting ti teh point of being hopeful, which is always a bad place to be!! Sixers is great by the way, isn't it - devastating final line...

Trying to go to the QPR match when I'm in London but they still haven't put the away tix on sale yet on the website. With my luck Sky Sports will pick up as a night game so I'd miss it anyway, because I'm not missing the THS Saturday show!

Looks like there's 2 extra songs on the vinyl versions of TPOP, noticed by the positive posting Facebook group.
Radar and Leda The death of the punchline
So 12 tracks available in some form or other..........

I sure I remember at some point (Twitter Listening Party?) that they had to drop one track (Parade Days) is it physically did not "fit" on the vinyl.

Yeah I quit the Facebook group when I got attacked for disagreeing with The Mountain Goats religious views on Christianity. I much prefer reading only reading only Hold Steady stuff than people’s political/social/religious stuff seeping through. Long live the forum and positive vibes!

Would be interesting if they included extra tracks on vinyl not on the digital versions. I imagine I’ll be getting both anyway. But if they are absolute bangers, I’d have to find a way to rip them.

They’re definitely getting a digital release. And having heard The Death Of The Punchline, we are assuredly getting at least one banger. But a Four On Ten style EP would be very welcome.

"Muddy" is a good way to put it, and to be honest for now I'm a bit disappointed with the sound, since I was SO blown away by the production on ODP. So I'll reserve full judgment until I hear the whole album.
