Next time you listen through the album keep this line in mind, I think this album really sheds new light on a lot of the characters and situations from records past.
I think a lot more is answered on this record than there are questions rasied to the audience.
To me, it seems the girls were fewer times the victims in a lot of those scenarios and seem to be more of the aggressors in the stories.
This is my 3rd favorite Hold Steady record, for me, a top to bottom "perfect record" much like BAGIA & SS... interested in what you all think!

Interesting! The first few listens I've mostly been too overwhelmed by the sheer joy to really consider the lyrics too deeply, but I'm definitely gonna keep this in mind. Any specific examples you think are noteworthy?
I can't rank the albums, there's so many different things I like about all of them, but I absolutely think this is the best sounding THS record since "Boys & Girls." Kaufman just has such a deft touch for interweaving all of the instrumental voices together.

Underneath the blacklight poster..." there are so many more from there on out!
