Really enjoyed the soundcheck, It was far longer than I expected and to hear some of those songs (especially Vacations and Discomfort) for the first time was great. Main show was great again, lots of horns, The Only Thing and another new one (Heavy Covenant). Looking forward to the earlier show with all the family (the kids at the shows...) and beer tonight.

A couple of thoughts about We Can Get Together from yesterday:
1. I'm relatively certain that I'll never hear a version any better than the one that opened the encore. First, it sounded absolutely incredible, especially the keys from Franz. Then add in the circumstances of the pandemic, and people literally crying in the zoom chat, and it's hard to imagine a scenario that would be more emotional.
2. Did anyone notice that during the soundcheck Craig did the "Business" air quotes (from Sequestered) when he said "and listen to your records" at the end of the last part: Heaven is whenever we can get together / Lock your bedroom door / And listen to your records. Has he done that before? I guess I should have picked up on it from "lock your bedroom door", but it tweaks the meaning for me a bit.

Man, we need to hear that version again when we're all in the same room. 2. Haven't watched the soundcheck yet, but I'll look out for that. I see how that would tweak things. But damn, I'm gonna still sit on my floor and listen to records. Hopefully with friends soon.

the HiW songs were a real treat in soundcheck.
I'm glad Craig agrees that Our Whole Loves should be a classic THS song.

Friday night's show was unbelievably good. "Heavy Covenant" made me even more excited for the upcoming record, which I didn't think was possible.

I have no words to describe how good I thought that debut of Spices was. Definitely the best song they've played off ODP so far, in my opinion. In terms of sound, it's classic THS and could've fit in on Stay Positive. Plus, if it was on Stay Positive, I might rank it top 3-4 on the album. Of course I need to hear the recorded version first and this is really premature, but, wow, I'm hyped.

I feel pretty much the same as I did on the Sunday night / Monday morning of London in March. Drained, emotional, drunk, but completely joyous. How they pulled that off on three nights of livestreams I’ll never be sure but wow, they did. Now to buy the fucking turtles t-shirt...

Also this is possibly peak hold steady. Remember there was a time without steve? And franz was gone? And now look at them, and the new stuff is so good, and christ I thought it might all be over and now its better than ever! So much joy

What a time this weekend was. Made me miss the real deal even more while still feeling the right feelings.

As a live band this is without doubt the best ever line-up. When The Horn Steady are on hand too it gets even better. As if that was even possible.

Defo, Horn Steady pushes it over the edge, but its not just live, I think musically TTTP and what Ive heard from ODP is almost as good as they’ve ever been. Its crazy to think back now to hearing Oaks close out Teeth Dreams, there was a real finality to it, I really thought it was all over, so to be here now, I know I’m tired and emotional and stuff but man it just feels so good to be here 😀

I never (in a million years) thought these livestreams would make me feel like I do. This band, man.

I never (in a million years) thought these livestreams would make me feel like I do. This band, man. What an amazing thing that was last night. So much richer and joyous than I thought possible through a screen. The whole zoom thing and fan interaction was fantastic - it really felt like a community experience, particularly chatting to other fans afterwards

I wrote up some general thoughts on the weekend on my blog, because I'm a writer and this is what I do: chadorzel.com/?p=605Awesome shows, overall a way better experience than I was expecting.

Great fun yesterday! I got to watch it with three friends and we had a blast. I agree they sound SO good now, tighter and beefier year by year. A well built machine at this point. And Spices sounded extremely good!

Just watched last night again. The start of Frighten sounded a bit odd. The look on Tad and Bobby's faces. Slapped Actress should be on every setlist

Slapped Actress should be on every setlist Yeah, I think Tad screwed up the riff somehow; I'm not a guitar player so I can't say what it was. It seemed like the rhythm was wrong. Once the full band came in, he adjusted whatever it was.

God, I love the Hold Steady and I have for over a decade now when I downloaded Almost Killed Me and Boys and Girls in America on a whim as I was heading on on a road trip to see The Gaslight Anthem. I certainly did not expect to discover my favorite band randomly whilst trying to hurry up and use an iTunes gift card before hitting the road. But here we are, a week after my wife and I decided to not see family for Thanksgiving and doing the same for Christmas and the week my grandmother died, The Hold Steady and the connection to the Unified Scene gave me something to smile about.
This has been one of the worst years of my life and I'm one of the lucky ones. But this weekend meant everything to me. Perhaps I took it for granted before, even though I enjoyed it so much. But maybe heaven really is whenever we can get together. And I'm desperately hoping that heaven will be Massive Nights 6.

I bought the 3-bundle reflexively, just to support the band in a bad time; in no sense was I thinking it was going to be an experience. Holy shit did I get more than I bargained for.
Musically, the band was incredible. The new songs, especially Lanyards and The Feelers, gave me chills. Watching everyone build what felt like instant THS traditions (the where-you-from signs, the kids, the pets, the fucking turtles) right in front of my eyes was wild. Have to believe they'll try this again even if Covid is over in a year. Epic.

That surpassed all expectations for me. I bought the full package to support the band and but I'm really glad I drank too much and saw everything live.
Saturday night was special - we didn't do the zoom thing but I managed to get my wife and teenage twins into THS T-Shirts and it was a lovely shared experience - I think they "get it" now.
Highlights in no particular order:
The whole soundcheck - Whole Lives/Slight Discomfort/Vacations especially Turtles The Only Thing Slapped and Resurrection back to back Shouting "SO MUCH JOY" at 4am The Horn Steady Galen's mask I could go on...
