About ten years ago Dave Berman buried Silver Jews with a pretty remarkable letter, mostly ripping his dad to pieces. I don't think he's released or performed any music since then, but now he's making a comeback with a new band called Purple Mountains. The first single is not too far away from the last Silver Jews album, and I get some Destroyer/Dan Bejar vibes as well. I absolutely love SIlver Jews, and while this at first listen isn't as thrilling as say Bright Flight, American Water or Tanglewood Numbers, it's really nice to hear Berman's voice again. Check out the single here (two minutes of humming and strumming before the track kicks off properly): www.brooklynvegan.com/david-bermans-purple-mountains-announce-debut-lp-share-single/

Wow, nice ... listened this afternoon and it's been in my head all day. (As kids in Portland we laughed at East Coasters who rhymed Oregon with "gone," but I love the line "it's not the icy bike-chain rain of Portland Oregon.") Curious to hear the album.

I was lukewarm to the singles, but the album as a whole sounds pretty damn good. Quite mellow and slicked produced, but with a nerve and a darkness to it. I really like it.

So sad to wake up to this story this morning. I guess it wasn't a surprise it would end like this, but it was so unexpected right now - after the record release, the planned tour and everything.
