Thought I'd make a new one to separate it from the NPR thread. I'm still part way through my first listen, but so far I'm really enjoying it a lot. The production and arrangements are outstanding. 'Indications' is gobsmackingly gorgeous, and maybe the least THS-ish Craig song I've ever heard. More thoughts shortly...

Had this on repeat today - so far, so good!
I'd agree with what bigontheinside and Muzzle were saying (along with a couple of the early reviews I've read). This record follows on from the last two, but really is VERY melancholy (not a bad thing for me).
It really is - as Finn himself and the reviewers have noted - very much a middle aged record. The characters and themes are familiar (depression and anxiety, battling addiction, bad situations, jobs and relationships etc), but there's also the hope, faith and making the best of what you've got that were strong in We All Want the Same Things.
The production, with some lovely touches of musicianship and vocals, really help CF's singing (though he hits new peaks on "Bathtub in the kitchen"). There's not much in the way of punk or rock'n'roll here - the odd hint of jazz maybe!?
I suppose Blankets and Magic Marker are the strong songs, but I really like Grant at Galena and Bathtub. Also Indications is beautifully old-fashioned (bit of a Richard Hawley feel!?).
There's certainly not a song I dislike.

This is a front-to-back beautiful album. It's the biggest musical achievement of any of his solo work - Craig, Josh Kaufman and everyone involved did a wonderful job. I thought We All Want The Same Things had a couple of tiny musical missteps if I'm being picky (some of the synths on Tangletown, and the double tracked vocals on Tracking Shots didn't quite work for me), but this is practically flawless.
Carmen Isn't Coming In Today was the only track that I thought seemed a bit bland on a second listen, but the lyrics really grabbed me at the end. One I'll have to listen more closely to next time. Grant At Galena is an early favourite.
This is quite a surprising album. It's slower than I expected, but I think that works in its favour and distances it from THS and his previous solo work. I was expecting to love it but I thought it'd be a more of the same, and I'm pleasantly surprised. It's taken precedence over the new Mountain Goats for me, which I didn't expect.

Yes, Partisan sent out the link for the album and the "PLATTSBURGH EP" I'd check your junk & spam boxes.

It always floors be the way Craig & THS manage to create songs that don't make it on proper releases but are simply unreal good.
IE: Adderall, Status, etc. etc. etc
Same goes with "It's never been a fair fight" from the Plattsburgh EP!
I fell in love with this song when Craig was performing it live when he was doing the Brian Fallon shows.
Blows my mind that these B-sides are always so amazing!

Did anyone get the clear vinyl version? Listening to it for the first time and it's definitely not the best sounding LP on my collection. Track 4 on side A is full of pops and it skipped a couple of times, etc. Anyone having the same issue?

I've had similar issues with clear vinyl in the past - not the greatest quality for sure. I will report back.

My wife and I went to Dan Monicks photography exhibit last night in L.A. really enjoyed looking at all the shots of what could have or could be Craig record covers! Let me know if anyone is interested in seeing some of the photos from the show & I’ll upload and post them.

I checked every inbox and searched my mail for the word “partisan”. All I ever got was order confirmation and shipping emails. I’m well aware that these things get pushed to spam sometimes but it looks like this time I just did not get it.

All you need to do is sign in on the Partisan website, then go to 'Music' or something like that to find the download. You should've created a password when you bought the album, at least I did. Hope that helps!

I feel very computer illiterate today!

I feel very computer illiterate today! If you go to the main page, you should be able to click 'store' at the top. Then if you scroll right to the bottom a menu pops up that has a 'sign in' button. Agree an email with a link would've been easier!
