OK, so there are a couple of hostels around Camden with dorm beds for around £20. I'm going to book one for Saturday night in the next couple of days - if anyone is interested in coordinating drop me a message here.

I guess it’s worth posting that if anyone has an extra ticket (or ideally 2!) for the Sunday night in Hackney I’d happily take it/them off your hands.

Those of you going to the UK shows: Feel free to post setlists, thoughts and maybe the odd video in this thread. I'm getting ready for Munich now!

Hello all. I've two tickets for the whole shebang on Sunday (screening, Q&A and Oslo gig). Just had a new baby and thinking I'd be able to spend a whole day with The Hold Steady has proved over-ambitious. Any takers?

When I posted earlier, I thought this was the thread about the Craig shows. I realize it's not.
Even happier to announce that I've managed to get Friday off, and are coming over for all three shows. It cost me an additional plane ticket (so now I have a useless one), but it's all worth it.

I've booked with a friend at a hotel just a few meters away from Oslo. It's called Kip Hotel. Not super cheap, but by no means expensive either. A good opportunity for those who wants a decent hotel nearby one of the venues.

Got some good advanced deals at the Premier Inn Hub and Kings Cross for Friday and Saturday and the Travel Lodge at Hackney for Sunday.

I just assumed it was quite easy to get between Hackney and Camden. Doesn't look all bad at the map, and there's a tube line directly between the two stations. If anyone have any tips for nice routes for walking and/or thinks a bus is more practical, please let me know!
And while I'm at it: I'm more than up for tips on good bars and restaurants in the Hackney area, since that's where I'm staying. Willing to move around a little bit as well, but closer to walking distance the better.

Stringer & I played there on our UK tour and he's been several times since. Dark little dive with great beer and vintage soul/R&B on the sound system.

No underground station in hackney but still straightforward. I was in hackney this weekend to see the dirty nil (great band) and stayed in the travelodge, there is a pub just down the road called the cock tavern which was excellent; massive selection of beers on tap and well priced £3.80 a pint for what I was drinking, though some of the others are pricey do choose carefully!

Allready have The Cock Tavern plotted out as a place to get some decent beer! And the overground looks like the best idea. Thanks! For people staying in Hackney, and eager to watch some football as well, Leyton Orient plays home against Wrexham early Saturday (12.35). I'm not gonna sit in Norway and tell people in London how to approach football, but from what I know about both english football and Leyton Orient, it should be a nice experience. And judging by the map, it looks like there's a nice walk for a short hour between Oslo/Hackney Central and Brisbane Road.

They are indeed easy for each other. 15 mins on the London Overground from Camden Road to Hackney Central, and Oslo is right by Hackney Central. Electric Ballroom is 10 mins' walk from Camden Road. It would be a stiff walk, and not very interesting, to be honest. All through the inner suburbs. So unless you like looking at endless Victorian streets, you won't get much of a treat.

Also, can I suggest some much nicer preshow pubs than the bloody Oxford Arms to you all, albeit a little further afield.
I recommend Tapping the Admiral, 77 Castle Road NW1 8SU. Five mins from the Electric Ballroom on a backstreet, but a lovely pub with a great range of beers.
The Lady Hamilton, on Kentish Town Road (in Kentish Town itself) is 10 mins walk and run by the same people who run Tapping the Admiral.
The Grafton Arms on Prince of Wales Road is decent pub.
All three are miles better than the ones right by the Electric.

I recommend the Good Mixer because it’s a dive, it’s cheap and was central to the history of Britpop if you like that stuff. I do because I was 15 when it all kicked off and music always means more at that age. I’d also recommend jamesjesusangleton’s advice because it sounds slightly more sane than my own and I assume he has a better knowledge of the area than I do!

Quite dark and a bit loud, but with a good selection of beer and really close to the venue. I'm not sure if I have time for a meet up on either day this year, but it's a decent shout.

The Black Heart was horribly dark (clue's in the title, I suppose) and very loud (some of us are middle-aged). It might be nice to meet up somewhere where we could say hello properly and have a natter pre-gig? Any of the above sound good - maybe whichever's easiest for everyone to get to?
