I'm a little late to the game on the Mountain Goats. I've played this album pretty much once a day for the last two weeks, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them live next week. The album is ostensibly about professional wrestling, and he tells some really compelling stories, with plenty of sing-along choruses, my favorite of which is "I will personally stab you in the eye with a foreign object." If you need a song to be convinced, try the Ballad of Bull Ramos or the Legend of Chavo Guerrero.

John Darinelle is undeniably a brilliant songwriter but I never got into them much either. I'm a big wrestling fan so I streamed a few songs when I heard it was a wrestling-centric album. Not bad, maybe I'll check out the rest.

Thank you! Definitely gonna be playing The Legend of Chavo Guerrero on my radio show later today. I'd heard their name but didn't realise this was their 15th album. Lots to discover.
And in a strange coincidence I got an e-mail earlier saying they're playing Bristol Trinity in November.

Amazing album. Probably his best since The Sunset Tree (allthough The Life Of The World To Come and Transcendental Youth are pretty great as well).

It was a really good show, and I really enjoyed the opening act, Steve Brodsky, a polymath headbanger if there ever was one. Would definitely go again. I don't normally do metal, but I think if Mutoid Man ever does the midwest, I would go see them.
