Did that new CSNY 74 set come out on LP? There's some really cool stuff on that. Especially the Neil songs from his ditch records.

First Record you ever bought: I think I was a really little kid when I got Radio by LL Cool J (haha...). But the first one I ever got with my own money was Mommy's Little Monster by Social Distortion Last record you bought: Collecting Pictures by North Alone Best record you own: That's so, so tough, but I'm going to have to go with either Separation Sunday (I forget the name of the band, though), or Elsie by The Horrible Crowes Worst record you own: Because the Internet by Childish Gambino Oldest Recording you own: Robert Johnson's Box set (recorded in the 1936) Record that reminds you of your best birthday ever: Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen (the album I listened to on my 21st birthday while very drunk on the way home from the bar. To be clear, I was not driving) Song that makes you cry every time: To Old Friends and New by Titus Andronicus Record that reminds you of your first kiss: No clue, my first kiss was awkward. Is there a song about the girl biting your lip and having one sweaty boob? Least favourite Record by a favourite artist: Lucky Town/Human Touch by Bruce Springsteen Music that makes you drive fast: The '59 Sound (album) by The Gaslight Anthem If you were a song you would be: Old While Lincoln by The Gaslight Anthem Record you have bought on most formats: Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen (vinyl, cd, and digital) Guilty Pleasure: Smash Mouth's first two records (Fush Yu Mang and Astrolounge) Record that you stole from your Parents: So, so many. Aerosmith's live record, Styx's greatest hits, Springsteen's greatest hits, Grateful Dead greatest hits, Story of The Clash Volume 1, off the top of my head The heaviest record you own: Don't really own too much heavy stuff. Probably Separation Sunday or Elixer by Hot Water Music Record you wish you had but don't: My own. The prettiest song you ever heard: Via Chicago by Wilco Record you'd love to hear for the first time again: The '59 Sound by The Gaslight Anthem
Dream cover version, who doing what by whom?: The Hold Steady covering either The Old Apartment or Too Little Too Late, both by Barenaked Ladies

Dream cover version, who doing what by whom?: The Hold Steady covering either The Old Apartment or Too Little Too Late, both by Barenaked Ladies I remember the guy who introduced me to THS saying "Hey you like Barenaked Ladies right? Check this out" and putting on The Swish. I have never thought of the two bands as even close since but Damn!

Check this out" and putting on The Swish. I have never thought of the two bands as even close since but Damn! That's awesome! I think it's more in the guitar work than anything (although sometimes also in the lyrics and melodies). Ed Robertson and Tad Kubler have a nearly identical guitar style and technique. Even though BNL is known for being more pop-focused, Ed is influenced by straight-up classic rock, much like Tad. I actually didn't notice it myself until I started learning THS songs on guitar - after already learning a lot of BNL - and was like "Damn, this is the same way Ed plays." Then I started paying more attention to the songs themselves, and...what is heard cannot be unheard.

First Record you ever bought: Either Joan Jett & the Blackhearts "I love rock n roll" or J. Geils Band "Centrefold". Can't remember which. Bought with a £1.00 record token. Last record you bought: Bought Prince, Eagles and Crowded House Greatest Hits together Best record you own: Born to Run Worst record you own: maybe Audioslave's second album? Oldest Recording you own: Robert Johnson complete recordings(on vinyl) Record that reminds you of your best birthday ever: No idea. Song that makes you cry every time: Dark Side of the Moon / Winnie the Pooh & Christopher Robin "Forever and Ever" Record that reminds you of your first kiss: Also no idea. Least favourite Record by a favourite artist: Bruce "Working on a dream" Music that makes you drive fast: THS Stay Positive or Constructive Summer If you were a song you would be: Well I used to be "Dancing in the Moonlight" (Thin Lizzy), but now I'm more "Happy to be stuck with you" (Huey) Record you have bought on most formats: Born to Run (again) Guilty Pleasure: The Carpenters "Goodbye to love". For the "sticky" guitar solo. Record that you stole from your Parents: Beatles love songs (double album compilation thing). My folks went from seeing the Stones and the Kinks in the 60s, to listening to Johnny Mathis etc in the 70s. Weird. The heaviest record you own: Bruce Live 75 -85 or System of a Down "Toxicity". Depending on what you mean. Record you wish you had but don't: A compilation of THS B sides and rarties The prettiest song you ever heard: Grateful Dead "Box of rain" Record you'd love to hear for the first time again: Thunder Road Dream cover version, who doing what by whom?: THS doing Springsteen's "Hard to be a saint in the city"
Great thread idea, by the way.

Thanks man.
I think we need this sort of thing to zing off on tangents and find out how many of us really bought The Muppet Show Album first time round.

Least favourite Record by a favourite artist: Bruce "Working on a dream" Dream cover version, who doing what by whom?: THS doing Springsteen's "Hard to be a saint in the city" Working on a Dream would have been my second choice for least favorite record by a favorite artists if it weren't for Human Touch/Lucky Town (I consider them one, since it's a double release). Working on a Dream gets the edge on quality for me though because the music was just so damn pretty (Queen of the Supermarket could have been brilliant if not for the laughably bad lyrics). Great dream cover. I'm surprised they haven't done it yet.

I can't remember when listened to them last - actually I don't think I have copy of either anymore (were on tape!) - BUT, I actually like quite a few tracks on Human Touch and Lucky Town.
It's probably a bit of nostalgia (as ever with me!) as they came out just before I came home from Australia, then I saw Bruce live with the non-E Street band.
In fact, I'm going to buy them both on CD right now!

Still like em!
There's the odd turkey on there, and neither would stand comparison to Darkness or Born to Run, but there's some good stuff.
Human Touch is worth it for Porcaro's snare sound alone.
And Ian MacLagan, Roy Bittan AND David Sancious on keyboards!
