first: the foo fighters (colour and the shape tour, with supergrass opening--my right ear rang for four days afterward) soon after: mustard plug with skinnerbox (lied to parents, who found out and grounded me for a month) first allowed without parents: the queers with the nobodys

Um, INXS with The Soup Dragons opening for them, I think.
It could have been POD at my local junior high, though.

At the old board I was SHOCKED to find that two of us were pretty sure it was Arlo Guthrie. Different venues, different hippie relations, but still - the odds -

1982 - Duran Duran - don't remember who opened but I remember getting right up to the front, and I'm pretty sure John Taylor smiled at me.

definitely one of the loudest and fastest bands i've ever seen. my ears were ringing for a week afterwards. Ever hear The Ramones album 1978? I was at that show at The old Palladium on 14th street. And many more before... listening to it right now. a lot better than its alive.

Mine was Wilco and REM at Midway Stadium the summer before 9th grade. I went with my best friend and my mom picked us up because she didn't let me take the bus at night yet. It started raining during REM and it was pouring by the time the show ended. They covered "Have you ever seen the rain?" and ended with "it's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel wet)." We were soaked and dancing in the rain and it was the best night.

Elton John at the soon to be destroyed Philly Spectrum. Oddly enough, the Queen of England was visiting Philly the same day and we saw her too. Feel free to insert Elton/Queen of England jokes as you deem fit.
2nd show was Manfred Mann with their #1 hit "Blinded by the Light". I don't think I knew it was a cover for another couple of years after that.

Kiss in Albuquerque supported by Ted Nugent and Skid Row (there might have been another, but I forget). I was young, had the Gene Simmons face paint, and it was awesome.

My first show was Brother Oswald and Charley Collins: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bashful_Brother_OswaldI saw them in my High School Gym in about 1978. This ties into the "Sequestered in Bluegrass" thread, Brother Oswald was one of the first popular dobro players... before Jerry Douglas made it big. Anyone remember these guys

Festival - Outsider Festival 2007 - KT Tunstall, Idlewild, Capercallie, etc Indoor - Idlewild 2007 - Inverness Ironworks
Its hard for me to go see concerts because I don't drive, the venue is far away, no buses and my parents will most probably have to work the next day. Saying that I only got to see THS because I was living in Perth.

I saw The Dogs D'Amour in Ipswich in 1989. Can't remember a thing about it now! First gig was Queen at Wembley Arena in 1985 which was awesome. I saw The Boomtown Rats pretty soon after that I think as I can remember Geldof plugging Live Aid. Ipswich used to be quite a big draw for bands back in the 80s and I also saw Ozzy, Meat Loaf, Blue Oyster Cult, Uli Roth, Hawkwind, UFO, Gary Moore and Big Country amongst others. Things have changed now unfortunately although Rufus Wainwright visited last year at the end of his tour which was a bit random. I went to college in Ipswich. I remember seeing The Wonder Stuff, Tori Amos, Thunder, Kingmaker and Eddie Izzard at The Regent. I loved the local punk scene : Love Junk, Red Flag 77, The Adicts, Out Of Time Records, Rex and of course those lovely lads from the Spread Eagle Cradle Of Filth. I went back a few years ago to see Red Hot Chili Peppers play the football stadium.

It's still there, although sadly less colourful these days! I think The Spread Eagle closed down recently which is yet another live music venue gone. Out of Time records still going though which is apparently in Little Camden, Ipswich now! littlecamden.co.uk/out-of-time-records-alternative-ipswich.php

Uhh...
Your Honor, the record will show that the defendant, captainyesterday, was fourteen years old at the time of his offense. He was raised in rural Vermont, and at that age was unable to tell the difference between right and wrong. He had no means of independent transportation, and no social contacts that could have prevented him from acting the way he did. My client saw Hootie and the Blowfish as his first concert ever, and begs the court for mercy.

Little Camden seems a bit ambitious of a label, but it's been a long time since I walked the streets of The Swich. Sad to see The Record And Tape Exchange go. That place was a gold mine. Half my vinyl came from there. The Spread is sad too. I used to pull pints there.
