Those first two Crows albums are so very very special My favorite record of theirs is probably Recovering The Satellites, but to be honest, I am such a huge fan of all their albums. Duritz is one of the most fascinating and honest lyricists ever.

Duritz is one of the most fascinating and honest lyricists ever. Recovering has some thunderous guts and righteous chaos in it which gives it an edge over AAEA for me. Songs like Have You Seen Me Lately and Angels of the Silences got me through some tough times. Articulate anger can be so therapeutic in song. And Long December still cuts me in half some days if I'm not properly prepared. Those songs got scratched right in.

One of the reasons I love Across A Wire is that those songs from the first two records take on split personalities. They all work well in both acoustic and electric settings.

That's a great record too. The 10 Spot Disc lived in my car for years. The "Get up"s on it are so urgent. I love those songs. Does your version have the Hidden Track? Mine does but a good Buddy of mine didn't get it on his.

If you're talking about the track 'Chelsea', I actually kind of hate that track on account of the unbelievable amount of autotune on Duritz' vocal track.

Ok tell me how the fuck Lennon/McCartney haven't invaded this discussion?? I know that Lennon has been mentioned by himself but what about with McCartney? I'd also like to mention Peter Case of the Plimsouls. His solo output is impressive as well.

John Samson of the Weakerthans (among others) is a great one I don't think I've seen come up in this. I keep the CD of "Reconstruction Site" in my car as emergency back-up music when I'm out running errands (for longer trips, I hook up the iPod). It's one of the rare albums I'm never not happy to hear.

I'd also like to mention Peter Case of the Plimsouls. His solo output is impressive as well. I love the Beatles, and I like their lyrics as well. But I wouldn't name either Lennon or McCartney as one of my favourite lyricists, Really good, but not amazing.

I'm with the MOB on this. Good song writers N'all, but Lyrics don't figure highly in the 'Things I Love About Ver Beetles' venn diagram hanging in the garage of the Bentos Cave.
They show promise though. They should stick at it.
