As you all have impeccable taste I need some help.....in a few months (23 April to be exact) all being well I will become a dad for the first time and whats more that little bundle of joy will most likely be a girl!
Now, as music is an important part of her parents' lives it is sure to be a big part of hers and as such I feel like I need to expose her to as many different brilliant people as I can. However, my record collection is very male-orientated and I want to build up the other side so she knows growing up that girls can rock just as well and as hard as boys! Genre etc doesn't matter.
Below are the female-led artists/bands that feature in my collection (basically what's on my ipod) so I'm after more. Inspire me and my girl Unified Scene!
Joni Mitchell Sleater-Kinney Waxahatchee Yeah Yeah Yeahs Haim Warpaint Hole The Breeders Patty Griffin Jenny Lewis (and Rilo Kiley) Kathleen Edwards Bat for Lashes Lana Del Ray Sia Patti Smith Blondie The Pretenders Bikini Kill Garbage L7
(There might be others I have missed but that is a decent sample)

The Internet Amanda X
These bands are split about 50/50 between male and female vocals. All feature prominent female members though:

Not really rockin hard, but Sia's stuff with Zero 7 is worth a listen (esp. The Garden).
If you're going down the road of female vocals, you could go way back and include some Billy Holiday or Janis Joplin.

I can't believe I didn't think of Regina Spektor...especially as we've been watching Orange is the New Black and she does the theme tune!
