reading that stephanie has never heard 'court and spark' alerted me that this board is missing a thread for joni love. one of the finest singer-songwriters there is, and one of my absolute favourites. 'blue' is required to own for anyone who calls themselves a music fan. my top five: blue, court and spark, clouds, for the roses, the hissing of summer lawns/ladies of the canyon (tie) favourite song has always been "the last time i saw richard", the first verse always kills me: The last time I saw Richard was Detroit in '68, and he told me all romantics meet the same fate someday cynical and drunk and boring someone in some dark cafe "You laugh," he said, "You think you're immune, Go look your eyes, they're full of moon You like roses and kisses and pretty men to tell you all those pretty lies, pretty lies When you gonna realize they're only pretty lies only pretty lies, just pretty lies."her ballet is here in the next week or so, but tickets were too pricey for me. a collection of some of her photography is coming in february, that's a little more up my alley. the perks of living in her hometown. here's a few primer video clips for those unfamiliar with joni: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-q4foLKDlcEwww.youtube.com/watch?v=bcrEqIpi6sgwww.youtube.com/watch?v=pALSKcWcVEkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=6XOV34vsjfgwww.youtube.com/watch?v=hvLTH8-9Z1I (the performance in this one floors me)

I didn't get into Joni for the longest time (more of a Rickie Lee Jones girl) and I hate Big Yellow Taxi like woah - but when I was doing some street team stuff a dude at Reprise gave me a copy of 'Misses' and I realized she was more than I'd pegged her. Still not a fan of what Joni fans are fans of - but Case Of You and some other tracks are in my essential folder, absolutely. It made me respect her talent, even if much of her work doesn't speak to me.

i didn't discover joni for a while, until i hit about 14 and rifled through my dad's cds. i found blue and listened to it about a zillion times (or a real number) that day. the whole album is beautifully written, she has a way with words. admittedly i haven't been and got much more of her stuff since but i love 'court and spark'. sigh, i love that woman.
my favourite song? too hard.
