God damn, I can't believe how many new albums are flying at me this spring/summer.
"Hi, I'm Mike. I get into these shows a bit and will probably jump around. If I accidentally knock you down, I'm going to pick you back up. If I make you spill your drink, I'm getting you a refill. Just be ready to high five me when the hand goes up and everything is going to be awesome." - campfirewood

Album leaked.
It's perfect in all ways.
Been tryin' to get people to call me M.C. Stevepants, 'cause I got fresh beats and I wear pants when I dance. But people just keep callin' me douchebag.
isn't it a bit hypocritical of us to support downloading another band's leaked album? ah well... i'm having a shitty month, and I'll buy it when it comes out and it looks like their forum doesn't have a problem with it... but it's not an official forum
grrrrrrrrr! ethical dilemmas! (i'll probably download it anyway)
*cut to a few hours later*
THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME
jazzy and loose and yeah. wow

Heaven is Whenever done an amazing job of staying unleaked though. I believe the first leaked copies appeared a day after a physical release. That's pretty good. Some bands don't have as many hang ups about forums discussing leaked albums, the Mountain Goats allow it for example. I understand the ban here though, THS had a really bad leaking experience and caused major problems and even some bad blood( I can't help but feel The Smidge might be addressing it somehow).
Yeah, maybe TGA will regret staying with SideOneDummy after this.

And that's why you don't send out review copies that aren't watermarked.

Maybe, but the album is quite impressive. It may not be SoS but sounds far more comfortable and easy than 59S. The fans who picked up this leak will still buy it on vinyl or CD.

yeah! there's a countdown on the Dimestore Saints (Gaslight's forum) with 55 days until the album's released... man
the leak stole a bit of thunder away from THS... I don't want to say i like American Slang more then Heaven Is Whenever, but it's a more accessible album, and at this moment in time I think i like it more but that will probably change
slower then the other Gaslight albums but still good
continues the story of The Cool, who's either a person or a concept? weird. last night they reran the episode of QI that talks about Miles Davis inventing the idea of cool... yeah
as for the Mountain Goats, i thought John Darnielle was against piracy/leaking of his stuff.... but he mostly hangs out in Last Plane to Jakarta, where you can't discuss the Mountain Goats. i think... i may be wrong.
this is an official board, so it makes sense you can't discuss leaks. i'd imagine a rep from SideOneDummy is going to smack down the Dimestore Saints soon though
I like the Gaslight Anthem, but this isn't anything special. Its formulaic to the max. I mean, its not a bad album, but I don't know about it.
The Diamond Street Choir and Boxer stand out. The rest of it sounds like The 59 Sound 2.0, except for We Did It When We Were Young. Its still good music, but I feel like they can be a lot better once they get away from this formula.

yeah but it's a great formula! and the new one is slower, and jazzier... i dunno... there are also sorts of logical reasons why i shouldn't love this band, and Brian Fallon is a really lazy lyricist... but i'm on my 4th listen of the new album in 2 days i dunno if it was 'cause i was born in Jersey or 'cause i'm the kinda lonely guy he songs about or what but something about Gaslight just hits the pleasure centers in my brain and won't let go
it's like i found the best hamburger ever. i probably shouldn't eat it every day, but it takes alot of effort to stop

Album's up for pre-order on iTunes with a bonus track and an acoustic version of American Slang. Apparently the other pre-orders will be available today on www.american-slang.com. I haven't heard the album yet (I wish I could say it's a matter of integrity, but really I'm just trying to fly below Big Brother's radar...although I'm sure it'll be quite worth it), so now I'm just real excited. Still a long ways away, though. At least HIW will be here soon. And Brothers.

Wow, I'm very impressed and even a little surprised (even though TGA/THS are my two favorite bands) after the first 2-3 listens of the album. This album is very, very good. Lyrics are fantastic (the best the band has done) and the vocals are incredible. I love a lot of the guitar lines, this is certainly Alex's best performance. The New York references, if I'm interpreting them correctly to be Brian's outsider view of a romanticized/idealized city/feeling that he doesn't know (and probably never will), are really quite special too (and not to compare the band constantly to THS but a lot of the references carry a lot more weight then, say, "I know bodies of water freeze over / I'm from a place with lots of lakes"... I will now duck before heavy objects are thrown my way)
Overall, I think I might eventually like it more that The '59 Sound which I really liked but never loved like I did Sink or Swim. I'm not sure I'll ever like anything they do as much as Sink or Swim, that album really means a lot to me and got me through a lot. Either way, very well done, and my worries after the first single have been relieved (that may be the weakest track on the album). 9/10 so far.
there was a much-maligned blog entry about THS/TGS that talked about Gaslight having a 'bridge and tunnel' view of New York... I grew up an hour outside of NYC (which is about how far parts of Jersey are) and i get it. New York is the most wonderful place in the world, and you're not quite a tourist 'cause you can go there all the time... but you're not quite a local, because you don't live there
right now I like American Slang more then... anything, really got into a screaming match with some people at a pub about them and THS. they claimed both bands ripped of Springsteen, i said TGA ripped off Springsteen more and that was not a bad thing...

I don't get the love for SoS. It's alright but I think 59 sound is obviously superior. I think it has something to do with not wanting the album that makes a band "big." Well TGA is a pop band performing songs that are not anything new. The catchier their songs get the better.
American Slang sounds great. I'm looking forward to seeing them in London.
Spanish johnny drove in from the underworld last night with bruised arms and broken rhythm and a beat-up old buick but dressed just like dynamite.
they just put up Boxer on their myspace IMHO, one of their best songs. great spoken word bit, amazing lyrics 'you found the bandages inside the pen and the stitches on the radio'...
