UK people - There's a campaign on facebook to get Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah to number one for Christmas, because otherwise Chistmas number one will almost certainly be the X Factor winner doing a significantly less meaningful version I don't really know if it'll work, but it would be a nice slap in the face to the generally depressing existence of X Factor if it did... Check it out: www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=66500765224That song (particularly the Jeff Buckley version) has a special meaning to me because it was played at my friend's funeral, but I think generally it would be cool if Jeff Buckley could teach Simon Cowell a lesson in music versus money

Charts are pointless. They will rarely allow good music in, because the public have poor musical taste compared to us on our high horse, yes music taste is subjective.

Agree, charts are totally pointless, but this would still be nice

A mate of mine got really into this having heard it on X Factor (even though he's definitely heard it before). I played him some other stuff off Grace and he was like "this is is rubbish". I just downloaded Buckley's version, that counts now, right?

basically xfactor shouldn't be allowed to win. charts mean shit all to me these days but this xfactor bullshit should not be allowed to sell better than decent versions of the cohen classic. end of rant.

Wow, it's actually 2nd in the charts. (I hate the fact that all the jocks are going around school "singing" the song, my ears hurt a bit)
It's being marketed on iTunes as; Hallelujah; The Definitive Version

By the way, Buckley's iTunes tag should be: Hallelujah; the definitive [drama queen] version

a significantly less meaningful version? don't you know the struggles alexandra's been through to get to where she is now? i mean, she got kicked off x-factor, and then she won x-factor. rags to riches!
seriously, though, i think it's fucking outrageous that there's this campaign to resurrect one flawed cover of a great song as a supposed act of defiance about another flawed cover of the same great song. it all just sounds like 'cha-ching' to me.

I've already bought the Buckley version 3 times on different formats...but I'm still tempted to dowload it again on protest against the X-Factor version (could be worse - at least we didn't have to listen to the 16 yr old chimp's version!)
What's more surprising is that people are buying the really-quite-bad Cohen original version and that's in the top 40 as well!

Seriously, I don't get the Cohen version at all.
IMHO, the second-best version (after Buckley's) is kd lang's, it's got some real depth and emotion to it.

It's a shame Diana Vickers didn't win. Her short rendition during boot camp made the hairs on my neck stand up. To be honest I don't get the Cohen version either!? As for Alexandra, at least Eoghan didn't win. Can you imagine that soppy little dribble of piss bleating out hallelujah? Singing lines like 'remember when I moved in you' while some purple rinse pensioner claps along and chatters her false teeth! God I feel sick.
Oo and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the rights to all the versions vying for the top spot are owned by the same record company. So there's the winner right there.
