Kanye has really gone downhill. College Dropout was an amazing concept album and my favourite rap album to date. Late Reg was pretty good and had a few gems on it Graduation was a bit pants bar 3 or 4 songs 808's & HBs just seems too different and I can't dig any of the songs.
Who else was on SNL with him?

It was mindbogglingly bad.
I defer to the genius of Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, DFA, in this matter:
"Sir, you are not the voice of this generation of this decade. In fact, with all the auto-tuning on your records, you’re barely the voice of your own albums."

Damn I love Stephen Colbert, I stayed up till 3 last night watching Colbert Report on FX. Best Night Ever(well best night this week)

I didn't see the SNL clip, but I really love the new record. Pretty fearless.

i really like 808's. even though it's way too overplayed, you have to play love lockdown really loud on a good stereo and once those african tribal drums set in, it will change your opinion.

the beats on 808's are awesome, that really has never been a problem for Kanye. But the auto-tune is out of control, it's a trend in music i just can't really get behind. It is a ballsy move and all, but the end result isnt very good.

i cannot explain how much i hate autotune. if it's audible in the recording, that means you can't sing, so um, don't.

they are trying to make us get used to hearing auto tune like its "cool" so we can be force fed unnaturally attractive people with no talent and terrible voices.

I think that kanye west's albums have just gotten progressively worse every time, and this was the album where it became too much.

The sad thing is that Kanye actually had talent, unlike the crappy popstars who use it just because they are so bad, Kanye really has gone down in my estimation after his latest album.

But with that said. if you can't sing without the help of auto tune...then dont sing. Dance with who you came to the dance with Kanye.

what annoys me with kanye and his auto-tune is that unlike, say, t-pain (who's publisher/my professor flat out said to my class "you do not want to hear him sing without that thing, haha"), it isn't cranked to the max. if it was, you would hear it going on everything, even the well-held on pitch notes because it wavers anything that isnt scientifically 100% on. kanye just can't sing, and we're supposed to be okay with that because OH HEY ITS THAT COOL SOUND. Like when people call it "vocoder effect". It's not a vocoder! It's autotune! For people that can't sing! If you can't sing, don't sing! That's how it used to work, and if someone couldn't sing, producers secretly brought in people who could. It was never the lead singer or a big band or something like that, though. Ergh this gets me so angry because now all these pop-punk teenager bands come into Matt's studio and they WANT to hear some auto-tune. They want it to sound mechanical.
