Noticed we didn't have one of these? Anyone else want to nerd out and talk comics?
Some I Really Enjoyed:
Sandman (obviously, anything Neil Gaiman writes or has a hand in I seem to truly enjoy beyond words) Local - Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly Shortcomings - Adrian Tomine The Long Halloween - Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale Blankets - Craig Thompson Epileptic - David B.

I haven't read tons of graphic novels, but I do enjoy them...
Sandman - really the finest thing Neil Gaiman has done, I think. Y: The Last Man - interesting post-apocalyptic fic about a world where the men have died Fables - I love fairytales, so this is great! The Heroes comics work really well in tandem with the series. Sandman: Mystery Theatre - not by Neil Gaiman, this is noir 1930s crime drama. I've read the first vol of the Gunslinger, which has nothing new content-wise in it for King fans, but it's very well done in terms of dialogue and art.
Disappointments - Buffy season 8 is just terrible.

If you haven't read Supermarket, do yourself a favor and track that business down. Brian Wood and Kristian Donaldson created a story that is funny, action-packed, and very stylish.
Also: anything by Jim Mahfood. Trust me.

I really enjoy Mahfood's work- there's a sense of kinetic energy that I really enjoy. Grrl Scouts: Work Sucks (the second Grrl Scouts[/i] series) is one that I particularly enjoyed.

American Splendor. I can never say enough good things about Harvey Pekar.

splashpage.mtv.com/2008/11/24/neil-gaiman-on-the-obscenity-of-manga-collector-christopher-handleys-trial/Semi sfw link no bad pictures, but I suppose some workplaces would regard it as bad content. It regards a man being jailed for owning comics that depict minors engaged in well...everything. Now regardless of whether I think this is in good taste or not, it got me thinking where does the line get set? Obscenity is a tricky subject, in comics doubly so, because that is where some of the most obscene subjects in our culture get expressed. Sorry about making such a heavy post in a lighthearted thread but I just read this and it really angers me. And the way the law is written is just frightening. On a more related note *gasp* Buffy Season 8 no good? I have throughly liked them so far. Though I expect very little from my comics. Also I have taken a shining to Atomic Robo. It's about a robot that spouts snarky quips while beating up nazis, USSR era communists, and dinosaurs. What's not to like?

I am in love with Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead at the moment - I've been picking up the collected issues as graphic novels. My only beef is that they changed the artist after the first book, Tony Moore is a much better artist than Charlie Adlard in my opinion.

loved Blankets as well. anything by Art Spiegelman (just finished his adaptation of The Wild Party) and sloshing my way through The Beats, which is a collaboration, based on true biography, with awful dialogue thrown in at random.

Got back into comics/graphic novels in a big way about 8 years ago.
Currently following Fables, the spin-off Jack of Fables, The Walking Dead and DMZ.
Finished all of Y: The Last Man, Sandman, Preacher, Queen & Country, Transmetropolitan and a bunch of others.
Have collected (and enjoyed) almost all of the American Splendor stuff that's out in book form, remember Pekar dearly from the old Letterman show, but never read him until the last couple of years. (Enjoyed the movie too.)
Have also gotten to some assorted Spiegelman, Tomine, Bagge (The "Buddy" stuff) and Clowes.
Also enjoyed some of those one-offs by Michael? Bendis, like Torso and his Hollywood memoir and such.

DMZ is pretty rad... Brian Wood is a solid writer (see: my praise for Supermarket.)

Bone: The Complete Collection is simply amazing, the art is beautifully simple and the story is awesome.
100 Bullets is a favorite of mine too, it has this amazing film noir feel to it.
Stray Bullets is awesome or at least what i have read of it. I'm not even sure if it is still going on.
I love comics so much, im glad this thread is here.

I'm a huge fan of Fables. I love the way that they take something so common, and turn it into an amazing story.

I need to check Fables out, all of my comic loving friends rave about it all the time.
Kick Ass is well....pretty kick ass, im really excited to see how the movie turns out. Apparently Mark Millar has had a lot to do with the movie...which he didn't with Wanted which is probably why Wanted the movie was so much worse than the comic.

Rhinovirus - I am a huge, huge Buffy fan, so I probably set the bar quite high in my expectations. I just think the voices all sound wrong! It's been too long since Joss wrote their dialogue, so there are Buffy lines that sound like Xander and so forth. Bluh!

See my issue with Season 8 is that I feel like since they aren't held back by the limitations of television its just getting too weird and the things that happen are just getting kind of silly. The appeal of the series is gone for me.

The series still appeals to me and I'll keep reading the comics but I see Rachel and Katie's points. The time travel in "Time of Your Life" did not make sense to me. I am not sure what it added to the larger story line. But I love Buffy and I'll keep reading.

File this under supercheese, but I really like the old G.I. Joe comics. This is partial nastalgia and partial Snake Eyes kicks ass.
But beyond that Fables fuckin rock, and I love Y: the last Man.
And speaking of Hockey the Essex County trilogy was really great.

I bought Walking Dead volumes 5 and 6 today, and finished them almost as quickly as I'd bloody bought them. Gutted. Anyone ready David Lapham's Young Liars? I was really, really enjoying it, then I missed one and then that's it, I bought loads in a comic shop in Birmingham, but didn't have the one I was missing. So I can't carry on
