I know this pertains mainly to their first couple albums, but there were a couple famous people mentioned in BAGIA and SP as well.
Mine: "You remind me of Rod Stewart when he was young. You got passion and you think that you're sexy, and all the punks think that you're dumb."
I must have a thing about Rod Stewart shout outs, because I also love "Young Offenders" by The Constantines which cites the chorus from "Young Turks". ;D
What are your guys' favorites? I'm interested to know.

Izzy Stradlin
From Chillout Tent: "He quoted her some poetry / He's tennyson in denim and sheepskin / He looked a lot like Izzy Stradlin" the lyrics might not be exact.

I am a huge Yeats fan, but my favorite shoutout comes in the form of "The Devil and John Berryman took a walk together..."

It was song #3 on John's last CD. Gotta make it though this year if it kills me. And it almost killed me.

I always found this one hysterical, having heard and enjoyed the band years before I'd even heard THS:
"She said that she was coming, but she mostly just made hard, fast noises. It kinda sounded like The Locust."
If you don't get the funny, check them out, and you'll understand.

How bout when Al Green then Barry White convinced him not to go? Falsetto AND Baritone keeping him in the game.

Rod Stewart for sure. I have used that line in casual conversation no less than 4 times. (I usually leave off the part about punks thinking the person is dumb, they don't take to fondly of that)

Morris Day and the Time, indirectly, as the band played "Ice Cream Castles." There aren't enough Morris Day references in the world.

There aren't enough Morris Day references in the world. i dont know if you dig atmosphere, but slug + ant + murs = felt; and on felt volume 2 there is a song called morris day, not the best song on the album, but hey, there's another reference for you.
