Fair game Manzarek's pretty good. But gods? Take it easy! He was the only talented one. Morison was a drunken, drug taking crap writer who most probably plagarised all his "own" words. The Doors are one of those bands i just dont get...i just find them incredibly boring. The Pixies on the other hand are incredible, both their studio abums and live.

Golly kids, not really staying all that positive are we? As an old geezer, I think I have enough perspective to recognize that "I don't like band X" and "band X sucks" are not equal notions. Some of these posts sound like "there's my opinion and there's wrong". Like they say, opinions are like assholes: everybody's got one. Doesn't mean you have to BE one. Never cared for New Order personally, but that doesn't mean they blow. Play nice.

what is the 'almost famous' line when lester bangs is talking about the doors? Jim Morrison is a drunken buffoon posing as a poet. At least the guess who had the courage to be drunken buffoons. That's why they were poetic.or something like that. and then he pulls out an iggy pop record ... great movie

I think that nirvana are very over-rated, i don't mind nevermind but unplugged is there best work.
The Doors on the other hand are one of the best bands ever, right up there with Springsteen, the who, the clash, the Beatles and the stones.
id take Jim over kc any day.
also the other thing i dislike about nirvana is the mindless following they have of people who blindly worship kc.

Does anyone really blindly follow KC anymore? The dude's been dead for 15 years. If there's a 12 year old into Nirvana, that kid is probably way cool. In the meantime bands like Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance are the bands that seem to have the teenagers "blindly following". Maybe their blind because they have too much eyeliner.
I'm stealing this from someone else: Every time I feel like I'm burnt out on Nirvana and that they're only important to me for nostalgic reasons, I throw on basically any of the non-Nevermind material. Such a diverse, interesting, smart, funny, weird, awesome band that most people still don't really get. When most people talk about "Nirvana", they're really only talking about Kurt Cobain and Nevermind. Goddamn though, I wish that some new band would come along and write songs like "Hairspray Queen", "Aneurysm", "Milk It" and "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter".
Moderate rock.
Also, In Utero is one of best albums ever. Fucking crank the volume on Scentless Apprentice....

Smashing Pumpkins Weezer Both those bands released their best material in the 90s and are both criminally overlooked. Unfortunately neither band has produced anything decent this side of the millennium.

It had to be Weezer? I'm going to shake it off. I agree at the SP had some very, very good material in the 90's and were ill served by Corgan apparently being a tool (based on the concert I walked out on) no, i can't do it. I'm back trying to see a world where Weezer COULD be underrated. The Ass Pony's, the Connells, but Weezer? I'm old. I need a lie down.

I need a lie down. i really miss the Connells.....of all of the bands during that time, they were so amazing and so underrated. their live shows were so full of energy and so much fun.....i remember getting in the car and driving across the south east to see them......it reminds me of some band that i seem to be doing that with right now........ i really wish someone would re-release some extended Connells discs man......i think i am feeling old....maybe i should go to bed....

I am thinking of Blue & Pinkerton Weezer, two albums which defined the 90's, for me anyway. Pinkerton is the perfect "getting over a bad relationship" record. SP 90's output:Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie Those were the first two bands who came to mind. Other bands who were better in the 90's than Nirvana: Soundgarden Rage Against The Machine Flaming Lips Radiohead - The Bends & OK Computer Beck

Therefore, great band. not dissin nirvana or anything, b/c they were perfect for their time and place, and i think thats what some of the haters here are missing. with that said however, here are some more 90's bands better than them (opinion): Pearl Jam!!! Phish- say what you will about jam bands, they have fuckin skills. modest mouse- i would probably put lonesome crowded west in my top 5 albums of the 90's. that's my kind of angst music. nuetral milk hotel- in the aeroplane... i know there are alot of strong opinions on both sides for this album. i think its a work of art. ok im done.

Now one overlooks or underrates SP or Weezer. Weezer is not in the same conversation as Nirvana. They're just not.

Weezer havn't written a good album since Pinkerton, their 2000-> work has had some good singles, but the albums dire and uninspired. However Blue and Pinkerton are the perfect for those who are nerdy, bad with girls, or play D&D.
I just rate Pinkerton and Blue higher than Nevermind and In Utero, maybe because I understand what Cuomo is talking about, whilst Cobain's lyrics seem either non-sensical or for only a few suicidal outcasts to relate to.

Cobain's lyrics seem either non-sensical or for only a few suicidal outcasts to relate to. They didn't become as huge writing nonsensical lyrics or ones that only suicidal outcasts can understand. Different strokes for different folks.

Very true. I don't hate Nirvana in anyway. Just find them overrated. I can't listen to Nevermind. I only love HeartShaped Box, Rape Me, and Unplugged. And that one released in 2002, idk the name.

I really think that Nirvana overrated only by main stream media: VH1 and rolling stone think they were the best thing since the beatles. However, they are underrated by music nerds. Making them fairly rated overall? Also, pinkerton better than in utero? I love nostalgia as much as the next but that is realy bold!

You. Are. High. Those were the first two bands who came to mind. Other bands who were better in the 90's than Nirvana: Soundgarden Rage Against The Machine Flaming Lips Radiohead - The Bends & OK Computer Beck Yes. No, but a close cousin. Absolutely not - I mean, I saw them live several times during Nirvana's heydey and it wasn't even the same horserace. They've grown, they are remarkable live now, the records are always growing stronger - but in the day? uh-uh. No. Freaking. Way. That's the Overrated Band. As to Beck - is anyone else old enough to recall the music writer who (in poor taste, but somewhat truthfully) revealed he'd hoped it was going to be Beck in the news report? I like Mexico, it's interesting some of what he's done, but in a head to head at the time? Pffft. Weezer is just like, like eating too many donuts and then trying to clear the chalky taste out of your mouth with a corn syrup based fizzy soda. It's great, if you like that.
