Anyone heard about the Sunday pub quiz? Nothing specific. But I'm guessing it will be something like the one in 2020: Held at a pub very close to the venue, at couple of hours before the gig. My guess would be somewhere on Mare St. at some time around 5pm on Sunday. The 2020 version was a lot of fun! Hosted by Michael Hann, who also did the interview after the screening of A Positive Rage in 2019. I hope to see you somewhere around there, tbob ! And if anyone from my crew are unable to attend, I'll let you know, and maybe you can drop by. I'm staying close to Camden this weekend, somewhere just around the corner of the Mornington Crescent station. I figured we'll take a walk in the direction of Camden early Sunday, and just hang around in the area before the quiz and the show. I guess it will be a hassle getting back to Camden Sunday night, not to talk about the pretty early flight back to Norway (then picking up kids at school and kindergarden, and THEN bring them to two separate birthdays, ugh), but it will be nice for Friday and Saturday. It's bit more hectic for me this year than previously - I'm coming down with my mum and two 15 year-olds rather than solo, and will be based in Surrey. Friday it'll be a bit of a rush to get back up to Camden, Saturday I'm taking the bairns. I'm solo on Sunday, and have a room at the Hackney Travel Lodge, so am less on a schedule. It would cool to meet up with folk at the pub quiz and beyond.

So.. love him , remember him as support at Massive Nights years ago. But... That last song on his new album just released.... Have a listen.. I guess it could be his concert closer :-) Ha, ha absolutely - I posted this on the "What are you listening to" thread New Frank Turner arrived today. The last song (Farewell to my City) has a bit of a Killer Parties vibe about it. Nice song about Scott Hutchison as well. Good interview in the Independent. THS mentioned in first paragraph! www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/frank-turner-interview-addiction-dad-b2004119.htmlHaving listened to it a few times I'll revise "a bit" to "a lot" It's his strongest album for years.

It will be interesting to see what the vibe of the crowd will be like, if the shows do go ahead. Anyone who's been to a Weekender before will know those shows always have a sweaty crush of a mosh pit. I am personally dying to be back in that this year, but I don't want to make others discomfortable. When I saw Squid in september, no one was wearing a mask and everyone was getting up close and personal in the pit. I felt safe because I was double vaxxed and tested before and after, but things were admittedly slightly different then. I can tolerate wearing a mask but standing still at a THS show would feel weird to me. Hopefully the numbers drop a lot in the next month and things feel a little less risky so everyone can have as much fun as possible. Yeah, I'm not sure how I will react as I am normally front and centre for THS, but have been very cautious throughout the pandemic. I went to three gigs in September/October last year. Accompanied my 15 year old to see the Snuts (twice, they are pretty good in a Radio X way) - very young, maskless crowd having the best time whilst I cowered at the back with my mask on. Also went to see the Waterboys, which was 80% old and masked up! I think I'll just be happy to be there - I'm interested to see how it will be as it it will be first foray south of the border since, funnily enough, March 2020 - it has a nice symmetry about it...

I've now taken the plunge and booked travel and accommodation for me, my mum and 2 kids. In some respects I'm in a relatively no lose situation, as whatever happens I'll get to have a weekend with my Surrey-based family. I was feeling positive up until about an hour ago when Band of Horses announced they've kicked the can down road from March. But as folk have said, this isn't a tour so I remain hopeful.

It's really difficult one. It's almost certainly safer health-wise now than in 2020; although it's pretty clear to me we should have been locked down by then in 2020, the lack of testing etc. meant it wasn't going to get cancelled. In 2022 it's pretty clear the UK (in this case English) government has spun the roulette wheel and is "letting it rip"; there will be no more restrictions so it will up to everyone to assess the risks.
I had planned to make a family trip from Aberdeen for the weekend, including bringing my 90-year-old mum with me to see family she hasn't seen since moving near to me just before the lockdown. I don't know, if I had no responsibilities beyond myself I would probably say "fuck it" and go, but it's not so easy.
If I were the band I'd be thinking it could easily go wrong, one positive test of a highly transmissible variant from disaster; I know of so many people who have caught it over the Christmas period...
On a broader matter my contempt for the UK government is boundless; being dictated to by a few right-wing libertarian headbangers just shows how rotten the political system is.
Rant over - stay safe all!

I'm pretty resigned to it not going ahead too. I'm on the hook for a non-refundable hotel for the Sunday night so not not too bad.
I'm going to buy a frame for my unused tickets - currently standing at Doves (who sadly are taking an indefinite break due to Jimi's mental health), Frank Turner, the Charlatans. I think I'll be able to add Wolf Alice to that any day (5th January in Scotland ain't going to happen).

God I can't stand Fontaines and don't see the parallels to THS/CF. I will say that 'Dublin City Sky' is an incredible song. I think you should lock yourself in a basement for 24 hours and play the two Fontaines albums back to back until you can't live without them mate 😀....I love them. Thank God for them. I came across this recently: www.youtube.com/watch?v=llUg4kdEoEQ&list=RDMM&index=3A House were a band that ran through my Uni years (early 90s). A fantastic (Irish) band who never quite got the credit they deserved, at least in the mainstream. Thrilling, life affirming live shows. I can see Fontaines DC in this, also where have we seen that "arms out" exhortation before? So that's the (tenuous) link between Fontaines DC and THS.. The original version caused some controversy the time as it was a list made entirely of men: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDo6LgylsjgSo they rerecorded it!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r19dF5r9xc

I know Fender is playing Crash records in Leeds before a gig at the brudenell in a couple of weeks time. Say 500 people tops in an evening max. The Geordie Springsteen. He’s quickly becoming my new Frank Turner. I don’t really get either of them but their inspirations and contacts are stellar. Coincidentally a really interesting FT article in the Guardian today www.theguardian.com/music/2021/nov/25/frank-turner-on-reconciling-with-his-trans-parent-miranda-is-a-really-nice-person-my-dad-wasntI credit Sam Fender with a new phase of my relationship with my stroppy 15 year old daughter - who is also coming to see THS with me in March - the kids at the shows...

Sam is selling out Arenas in the UK, adding second nights most venues, I doubt a support slot at the Electric Ballroom would be something that would interest him? Craig Solo supporting Sam on an arena tour in the future is more plausible. He'd tune in a lot more people to his music like that I think. More than opening for Brian Fallon in clubs. Yeah, I know. not realistic, but it would be something...

I hope Michael Hann isnt doing the quiz, ffs it was like University Challenge last time I've heard last year was the University Challenge version, this year it's the Only Connect version... Which reminds me of the only time I got the fourth in a sequence after one clue Carlisle answers on a postcard.

Haven't heard anything, but based on the previous Sunday venues, I doubt it will be that far from Camden. Not sure where you get that notion from! The first year the third show was the Lexington, which isn't too far from Camden. A couple of miles. Then Oslo, in Hackney, which is a little bit further. Then Bush Hall. Now, I can tell you how long it takes to walk to Shepherd's Bush from Camden, because I do it sometimes. About two hours. It's all about perspective I guess - I was more thinking of having to change accommodation for the third night. I live in the NE of Scotland - for me going to Glasgow for a gig (5 hours round trip) is not 'that far' - Scotland does not exist for most bands once you get north of the Central Belt...

Anyone any leads on the general part of London Sunday might be based in? Haven't heard anything, but based on the previous Sunday venues, I doubt it will be that far from Camden.

I've booked 3 nights accommodation (refundable) and flights (£33 each way from Aberdeen - which I'm willing to take the hit on). I'm a mixture of excitement and trepidation; I've barely been out in the last 18 months having been lucky enough to work from home and wanting to protect my elderly mum. The downside is that I really can't imagine being in a "sweaty gig" environment - which makes me a bit sad.
