The Hold Steady were emblematic of a place in time. That place in time has passed. It was definitely a good run.

Every band is "emblamatic" of their time. THS is well aware.

Every band is "emblamatic" of their time. THS is well aware. I agree (to a point) that's why I asked the previous contributor what he/she thought the band's next move should be? Reading between the lines the post sounds like they should either pack it in entirely or be shoved unwillingly into the nostalgia circuit. Every great band comes from a certain environment and time that can't be reproduced, you wouldn't want to reproduce it in truth. It's gone. However this particular band.....still the best band in the world in my opinion...has plenty left in the tank. The last two albums and the live shows since Franz's return show that in abundance. It's still a great ride. I see no need to.jump off that ride..

Or to put it another way: Yes, they were a special band for a special place in time to me as well. But they're still very much special to me, just in a completely different way than in 2006-07. Open Door Policy was almost as perfect to me as a 37 year old as Boys And Girls was to me as a 23 year old. Same goes for the live shows. They used to be hectic and frantic, and I loved that. Now, they're a well-oiled machine, sounding better than ever - and I'm able to catch them three or four nights in a row once or twice a year. And, frankly, still get pretty drunk while doing it.

Well said, Muzzle. Are you still doing the Craig Finn solo thread, or is that on hiatus?

An unplanned hiatus due to holiday, yes I have a couple of the next ones written out already, but gonna wait to post till I have everything sorted out. Check back some time in August!
