We will probably be there pre-gig. still no email from See re soundcheck There are plans afoot on Facebook for meets at the Black Heart on Friday from 4 ish, Tapping The Admiral on Saturday and The Cock Tavern on Sunday. Feel free to join in!

I recieved an e-mail with this in it yesterday: "Soundcheck: If you purchased tickets for the Soundcheck + Happy Hour on either Friday or Saturday (or both), the event will run from 3:30-5:00pm (15:30-17:00). Please try to arrive at Electric Ballroom by 3:15pm (15:15). We start with soundcheck, will do a group photo at the stage with the bar open for Happy Hour."
So is anyone up for a meet up before the Saturday show? I met a few folks on Saturday afternoon in 2020 in...was it the Prince Albert...the Admiral something? Good beer and food as I remember. I'll be lurking around with Mrs. Repoman who thinks it's just weird that I want to meet people off of the internet that I don't know, but there you go. In other news I've now had 3 emails inviting me to buy 4 cans of THS beer for £15 but still nothing about the soundcheck.
sure, I have sound check tix but would be in for a pint beforehand Bill

I've been in contact with Electric Ballroom, and it seems the only way for me to get the hold on the four extra tickets I have, is by box office on the day of the gig. Which means, I have FOUR SATURDAY TICKETS to be sold TOGETHER, with the extra hassle of meeting up with me outside and go in together.
I'll sell them as one 4x package with a little discount if this appeals to anyone, haha.

Due to a last minute change of plan, I have to get back to family after Sunday's gig. So, I have a room in the Hackney Travelodge spare - let me know if you are interested - I booked it way back and it's only 35 quid. I will be in Hackney for the pub quiz.

As an American who came over by himself, I obviously know no one here so it'll be nice to meet some THS fans prior to the gig. Cheers.

Me and two pals are currently driving down from Scotland for tonight and Saturday. It’s a mini stag weekend for me. I get married in April. We’ve got an AirB&B in Camden for the weekend. We’ve also got a spare ticket for tonight and Saturday if anyone is interested.
Where’s everyone going beforehand?

I've landed and have had my first pint of the weekend. Not sure if I'll make it to anything before the gig but is there a general spot folks are going afterwards tonight?
At the least, Hope to see everyone Sunday, if not before then. Enjoy folks!

Fuck, Fuck, fuck. I feel like I'm the protagonist from an unreleased ODP song. I have tickets for tonight and tomorrow. But now can't make it tonight as I forgot to put the gig in our family shared google calendar and my partner is out at some shit karaoke night.

I’m on the train down and heading straight to Electric Ballroom for sound check. Very excited. And I’m 59 🙄

Sound check was a brilliant experience. About 6 songs played including a new one tentatively entitled Bloodbath: full on chunky rocker.

Well, it may be recency bias but I think that might have been the best Hold Steady gig I've been to.

Two fantastic shows so far. Would love to see them do a Cure-style 3 or 4 hour show at some point. So many great songs after this number of albums that even over 3 nights they may not get to fit them all in otherwise (e.g. no First Night so far this weekend). Every time they have a support act with a female lead (like English Teacher yesterday) I get my hopes up that Chillout Tent may make an appearance but no luck so far - doesn't seem to have been played in the UK since 2009? And I guess there's very little chance of getting a full-length version of Oaks any time soon. But it's always easy to say "why can't they play all of my favourite songs every night I see them?" so I'm not complaining - the shows and the setlists have been brilliant so far

I was just saying to sequesteredinuk that I still want to hear “Meet Me in the Lobby” live!

Well, all over for another year, how was it for you? I thought both gigs at the electric ballroom were fantastic (did night 2 have the edge on night 1?!) and the moth club was incredible, must be the smallest venue they've played in years. Both new songs debuted on Sunday night sounded great, roll on 2023.

Very much not in the generally “softer” mould of the new material, perhaps a bit more like Thin Lizzy or, dare I even type this, maybe… Saxon?!

Both new songs sounded fantastic and I can’t wait to hear the studio versions! Someone mentioned they’d recorded a load of new stuff so fingers crossed there’s more to follow.

I just posted this on the Positive Posting Facebook group. Thought I might as well share it here too.
--
Some setlist musings from The Weekender 2022, some of it quite general, some of it rather personal. I could be making mistakes here, I'm more a man of words than of spreadsheets, so please correct me if you find anything wrong here.
Total number of different songs played through the weekend: 52
Songs played every night: 7 - the usual suspects, as you would assume. Stations, Hoodrat, Sequestered, Chips Ahoy!, Constructive Summer, Entitlement Crew and Killer Parties.
Songs played 2/3 nights: 6 - Massive Nights, You Can Make Him Like You, Stay Positive, Lanyards, Heavy Covenant and Family Farm.
Songs played only once: A staggering 39. I just want to underscore this, as there's been some discussions about too static and predictable setlists. I think a lot of people, myself included, just get tricked to think we hear the same songs every night, while in fact they switch it up a lot. One night it's Cattle, the next it's Stevie Nix, then it's Banging Camp. It's sometimes hard to separate it in the cummulative memory, but if you attended all three shows during the weekend, every second song you heard, was a unique experience for the weekend.
On a general note: It's interesting to see how the status of some of these songs change over the years. For a long time I'd though I'd never see a Hold Steady show without The Weekenders, but this year it featured only once. Magazines is another song I just feel they play every night, but actually it featured only once in London 2020 and again only once this weekend.
Massive Nights, Stay Positive and You Can Make Him Like You have also slipped from pretty regular ever presents to usually feature two out of three nights. And for a while, it looked like a certain pattern that they did two out of the three regular closers (Southtown, Resurrection and Slapped) each night - this time around, each of them were played only once.
Teeth Dreams was vastly overlooked this year, without too many tears being shed, I guess. Out of the 75 songs played, only two were Teeth Dreams tracks (On With The Business and Frighten You one time each). I would love to get the occasional Spinners or The Ambassador, though. Heaven Is Whenever enjoyed a better spread, with Sweet Part, Hurricane J, The Weekenders and We Can Get Together all featuring. But do you guys remember when Rock Problems was played almost every night? Those were the days!
This is the count for songs featuring from the albums (I've counted Adderall as a Stay Positive song here):
AKM: 6/10 SS: 9/11 BAGIA: 7/11 SP: 7/12 HIW: 4/10 TD: 2/10 TTTP: 6/10 ODP: 8/10
Brand new songs: 2 - I'm pretty sure one had a verified (tentative) title as Bloodbath, and I guess the other one is Llama, as it was told to have that name during one of the soundchecks (in my spreadsheet, Lanyards is still called "Frog?", so this could obviously change).
Songs I heard for the very first time live: 7 - Heavy Covenant, Family Farm, Unpleasant Breakfast, Spices, Me And Magalena, Bloodbath and Llama. By default it's getting increasingly harder to hear a deep cut I haven't heard before.
Songs breaking the 20+ times heard-mark: 1 (Massive Nights) Songs breaking the 15+ times heard-mark: 1 (Entitlement Crew) Songs breaking the 10+ times heard-mark: 3 (Hornets, Banging Camp, Yeah Sapphire)

What a weekender that was! Despite having been back going to gigs since last summer, these did bring a full circle and put some semblance of normality back. Thought night 2 was definitely a step up from night 1, and they kept at the same level on Sunday night from the get go. Crucifixion Cruise into Most People Are DJ's was an unexpected one-two at the end of what would have been the main set last night.
