Sure, they sang that song for Game of Thrones. And there are all those references in LOST. But Supernatural is a show about road tripping across America, listening to classic rock from the 70s, convincing people to call you by absurd classic rock aliases that actually work (Agents Page & Plant!), getting in various supernatural scrapes, hanging out with angels, dying and getting resurrected and killing your brother, finding out you’re just actors, and experiencing metaphorical drug addiction.
It’s how people in those songs see themselves.
