Gonna wait until release day for this one, really looking forward to hearing it and the new Mountain Goats record. My two favourite songwriters in one day, feels good to be alive

I feel the same way about them being my favorite songwriters. It’s so cool that they’re friends.

Out on Spotify this morning.
I've listened through it a couple of times. My first impression is that this is a sweet, elegant, mellow album made with a sad and melacholic palette. That was no surprise after all the interviews, but I was a little bit surprised of just how far in that direction the album goes. Blankets is by far the most uptempo and energetic song, and Something To Hope For is in that end of the spectre too. The good thing about it is how the stories takes the central spot in the songs. Craig's voice is the focal point here, and his stories and lyrics are as good as ever. The not so good thing is that the album at first glance seems a little bit too much of the same stuff. There's plenty of subtle details here, and it's beatufully produced, but it's a lot of the same tempo and the same atmosphere. I think I would have liked a little bit more edge or rawness. Not in a rock'n'roll way, but some of the ragged-ness and intensity of songs like Jester & June or Newmyer's Roof.
As the third part of a trilogy, it sounds really fitting and right. And I think it's gonna grow on me.
