Though obviously there are quite a few I've never heard, I've now finally heard all the songs I want to hear played live. Though I accept that's more to do with me demanding them in return for having done things – guilt tripping them unto playing Milkcrate Mosh at the Brooklyn Bowl soundcheck Q&A last December; them doing Charlemagne in Sweatpants at the Lexington in March. That was epic. Must have gone on 10 minutes.

I've seen them ten times live, first in 2008 (they played "Hot Fries" at my first show!). Grouping by the proper albums, I'm missing:
Hostile, Mass. [My #1 bucket-list song] Sketchy Metal Sweet Payne
Charlemagne in Sweatpants Crucifixion Cruise
[seen everything on BAGIA and Stay Positive]
The Smidge We Can Get Together Barely Breathing Our Whole Lives
Big Cig Wait a While Runner's High Oaks

Fun idea. I've seen 10 shows and a soundcheck. I think Charlemagne, Payne, The Only Thing, 40 Bucks, and Oaks are the big gets from this list that would really get me going. And most of the other Teeth Dreams stuff I haven't seen -- I didn't get to see a proper show on the TD tour, just a chili cookoff in Richmond sans Steve. The songs I've seen most are Constructive and Sequestered, which are the only songs I've seen at every show (10). I wouldn't change it. Hostile, Mass Sketchy Metal Sweet Payne Modesto is Not that Sweet Charlemagne in Sweatpants Don't Let Me Explode Crucifixion Cruise 212-Margarita The Most Important Thing Arms & Hearts For Boston Teenage Liberation 40 Bucks Spectres Ballad of the Midnight Hauler Soft in the Center The Smidge A Slight Discomfort Touchless Ascension Blues Separate Vacations Bear and the Maiden Fair Criminal Fingers I Hope this Whole Thing Didn't Frighten You The Only Thing Runner's High Almost Everything Oaks Saddle Shoes Look Alive Records & Tapes Self quote. The above came from 10 shows and a soundcheck. 8.12.08 Chapel Hill 8.14.08 9:30 Club 11.3.08 Lincoln Theater 9.19.10 The National 9.1.11 9:30 Club 9.2.11 Jefferson Theater 4.9.14 Richmond Chili Cookoff 7.26.18 Union Transfer 7.27 Union Transfer (SC) 7.27.18 Union Transfer 7.28.18 Asbury Lanes

I can’t be bothered to rack my brain through all the sets but there’s two songs I’d love to hear and haven’t. They are Records & Tapes and Barely Breathing. I could also add Star 18 but that’s just a case of time. On the flipside I have seen them play Oaks twice which judging by other lists is pretty good going.

Good amount I haven't heard - particularly stuff from Teeth Dreams and HIW as I hadn't hit a bunch of those shows when those albums came out. I think I've heard everything on the first 3 albums minus Hostile Mass, Sketchy Metal and Crucifixion Cruise but honestly can't remember the 2 shows all that well from the Lancaster Lizard Lounge days. So I'll just put my top 5 White Whales that I'd pretty much love to hear: 5. The Only Thing - easily my favorite song on TD and I think it's easily in the top 3rd of Hold Steady songs 4. Eureka - probably my 3rd favorite of the newer jams and I've heard Entitlement and Stove already so... 3. 212 Margarita - just always have loved this one, still possible I guess. 2. Teenage Liberation - 100% sure this has never been played live and 99% sure it never will, but this band continues to surprise and push limits so maybe? 1. Ballad of the Midnite Hauler you weren't at the union transfer show with Swearin' in 2012? Oh shit I did hear The Only Thing then, well I don't remember it so it stays on the list! Or maybe I just didn't have as deep of an affinity for it at the time?

And if anyone is able to find the setlists from the show at Melkweg, Amsterdam and HMV Forum, London - both in june 2010 - I would be very happy!
According to my notes at the time, at the Forum on 22 June 2010, the setlist was:
The Sweet Part Of The City Stuck Between Stations Hurricane J Constructive Summer Hot Soft Light Our Whole Lives Barfruit Blues Magazines Rock Problems You Can Make Him Like You We Can Get Together Hornets! Hornets! The Swish Barely Breathing Chips Ahoy! Chicago Seemed Tired Last Night Sequestered In Memphis Most People Are DJs Massive Nights Slapped Actress
Stay Positive The Weekenders Southtown Girls
I hope that helps.
Thanks! I couldn't remember Sweet Payne, but became unsure about it when Bigontheinside mentioned it. That show is a bit of a blur to me, but I vividly remember Barfruit Blues.

I'm pretty sure I heard The Only Thing as early as in august 2012, when it was still named (at least on the internet, I don't remember if Craig explicitly called it that) Teeth Dreams.

Yea at the time I knew it as “teeth dreams”. I’d listened to a few live recordings and loved the song so I was psyched when they played it. I think “saddle shoes” was called “rainbow” on that setlist.

My list is pretty similar to some of the above. I've been to 18 shows. There are a couple here that I think might have heard at soundchecks before (mostly stuff from Teeth Dreams, but also 212 or Modesto, perhaps?). Does anyone have the soundcheck setlist from Dec. 1 2017? That would help jog my memory -- I know they fumbled through a bit of Curves and Nerves but I don't remember everything else.
Hot Fries Curves and Nerves Milkcrate Mosh Modesto is Not that Sweet
The Most Important Thing 212-Margarita
Arms & Hearts For Boston Teenage Liberation
40 Bucks Spectres Ballad of the Midnight Hauler
Soft in the Center The Smidge A Slight Discomfort Touchless Ascension Blues Separate Vacations
Bear and the Maiden Fair Criminal Fingers
Runner's High Almost Everything Saddle Shoes Look Alive Records & Tapes
Esther Eureka

I didn’t think of it at first but I’m pretty sure they didn’t play Stuck Between Stations when I saw them at their second Glastonbury appearance in 2010 and setlist.fm seems to back this up... www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-hold-steady/2010/worthy-farm-pilton-england-63d46647.html

After the recent run of shows, who I mostly enjoy via Facebook, Instagram and careful reading of the setlists, I've backtraced my own live history with Hold Steady. With feweer and fewer visits to Europe, my total show count is currently at 14. I figured out it would be fun to make a list of songs I have and haven't heard live. Turns out I've heard more than I thought. It didn't seem that significant when I heard Separate Vacations, Going On A Hike or Wait A While back in the day, but it doesn't look like they make a return to the setlists any time soon. So I thought it would be fun to make a list of Hold Steady songs I've yet to experience live. I'm sorry to bother you with this, it's mostly for my own amusement. But it would be interesting to see how short the list from some of the veterans in here turns out to be. And if anyone is able to find the setlists from the show at Melkweg, Amsterdam and HMV Forum, London - both in june 2010 - I would be very happy! But two new songs need to be added (in bold). It's also time to update the Most Seen Songs List. I'll just post it here. I've seen a total of 77 different songs (not including covers, just original Hold Steady songs) at 21 different shows. 21 - Stuck Between Stations 20 - Chips Ahoy! 20 - Sequestered In Memphis 19 - Your Little Hoodrat Friend 19 - Massive Nights 19 - Constructive Summer 17 - Killer Parties 16 - You Can Make Him Like You 15 - The Weekenders 14 - Southtown Girls 14 - Party Pit 14 - Hot Soft Light 14 - The Swish 13 - Stay Positive 12 - Magazines 12 - Entitlement Crew 12 - Stevie Nix 10 - Multitude Of Causalties 10 - Slapped Actress

Yes, you're totally right about Crucifixion Cruise. I had a feeling that I'd heard it live. And now I see that it's mentioned in my spreadsheet, but I forgot to cross it off my list.

Great gig at Bush Hall last night. There was a song that I didn't recognise and no one else in the pit seemed to know the words to (unlike absolutely every other song). Setlist FM have the track listed as "Open Door Policy". Is this a new one or an old song that I've overlooked?

Might have to hit all 3 next year, this year's Sunday setlist looked pretty great. Can we also all agree that the new songs are awesome? I was particularly gripped by Feelers (the new one on Saturday night) and Lanyards was great too. How was Open Door Policy?

I'm really impressed by all the new songs, especially Lanyards (glad they got rid of that Frog thing), loved the line about being way too much blood for a nose bleed. Next album shaping up well already. Good signs.

Really impressed with new songs. Also my first night 3 was all I'd hoped for in terms of some relative rarities. First time I've heard Sweet Payne and Charlemagne.

I've got to admit though - I wasn't overly excited by Open Door Policy on first listen but I suspect that's just unfamiliarity.
