Hey guys,
I just got back from Craig's show here in Cincinnati, and I had a fucking great time with it. Very nice, calm atmosphere, and Craig is a hell of a storyteller. Between tracks, he was taking questions about all different kinds of things. At one point, I took my chance to ask him "Will the world ever hear Bitchy Christmas?"
Craig's first response was to point out to the rest of the crowd that I was "asking about a very obscure Lifter Puller song," to which they laughed--I know I'd kind of made a reputation for being that kind of fan at this show, but I really was super curious after I'd heard about it a few months ago. He explained the reasoning for it--that in December 1998 their friends the Freedom Fighters were recording a Christmas cover of "Feliz Navidad" and asked Craig to put their own Christmas song on the other side of the tape to be sold at a show. He said that he wasn't focused on making anything great--in fact, he went to a local record store and found a copy of "Crush On You" by The Jets, wrote alternate lyrics, and then just recorded their own version of the song!
He also said that, on the recording, you can actually hear The Jets' track playing in the background, as the band was just playing along to it. "I'm not the proudest of that recording, so I don't think it'll ever be ready for the world."
Can't say I blame the guy, and it was great to hear about it like that. He also pointed out that the cover of the "Star Wars Hips / Mezzanine Gypoff" single has a photo he took at the final Descendants concert.
As for his own show, it was fucking amazing. Really outstanding stuff, he's a great host and a great guy to talk to.
