Greetings members of the Unified Scene,
My name is Scott Castro, a longtime fan of The Hold Steady and follower of the Unified Scene. I've never posted on the boards before, but I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to unite a small group of fellow members before the intimate VIP Happy Hour with the band on December 2nd.
My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to snag two of the tickets to the event and would love to virtually meet some of our fellow Hold Steady superfans before we all meet in person in December.
Anyway, we're from Richmond, Virginia and our first date was three years ago at the Hold Steady / Lucero NYE show in Montclair, NJ. We've seen The Hold Steady (and both Craig and Franz solo) countless times; however, this will be her first time seeing THS WITH Franz on keys. We're very excited to meet you all and enjoy three straight massive nights of positive jams.
Stay Positive!

I didn't get the Happy Hour, but I did get the 3 night/merch bundle! I'll be flying into JFK on Thursday afternoon and was thinking we should get a group together at Lake Street in Greenpoint. For those unfamiliar, Bobby Drake is a part-owner and I believe Craig frequents the spot in their down time.

Scott-thank you for starting this thread. Wasn't quick enough to get the happy hour and so quite jealous but do really like the Lake Street suggestion. Not familiar with Brooklyn and so also interested in any other local recommendations (THS-related or otherwise). My plans are usually last minute and so having this much lead time is new for me.

Great suggestion! I'm not familiar with Brooklyn either, but we're going to try to get up there sometime Thursday afternoon. A pre-show (or post-show) gathering at Lake Street would definitely be a lot of fun.

I'll be driving down from Albany for the Friday show; way too early to know about timing and so on. I only got a ticket for the one show, so no soundcheck for me, but I'd be up for pre-show beers somewhere.
(Saw them with Franz in a tiny little bar in Albany during the Stay Positive tour, and without in a different Albany bar during the Teeth Dreams tour...)

If I may make a suggestion based on experience (without me getting roped into organizing anything), Lake Street is not exactly the best place to do a large group meet-up. It is thin and linear. There are two table you can squeeze 5 people at and then about twelve tables that seat 2 each and a long bar that seat about 20 or so. I am not saying don't go at some point that week, it is a very cool bar and they always have great tunes on. Just be forewarned it will be packed post-show from their usual weekend crowd regardless of the impact of these shows. If I were organizing a pre-show meet-up (but I am not), I'd look at the Spritzenhaus which is much closer to walk to Brooklyn Bowl. It is quite large, has a giant beer list and large long tables that are often slid together for massive groups. www.nytimes.com/2011/07/07/fashion/spritzenhaus-beer-hall-in-greenpoint-brooklyn-boite.htmlBerry Park bar a few doors down is another option especially for those how need a football fix (as in soccer, not the NFL). www.berryparkbk.com/gallery/Brooklyn Brewery is literally around the corner from Brooklyn Bowl but you need to check their tap room hours as they are limited. brooklynbrewery.com/verify

I'm up for that. flying from Scotland just for THS, and have 3 nights of tickets. Seem them lots over many years in the UK, but this will be a first in the US. Sort of thinking it could be their swansong, although I truly hope not.

any word on what time the soundcheck happy hour is on Friday night? It looks like doors open at 6pm for all shows, so I am guessing the soundcheck is at 5pm on Friday (maybe earlier)?
flying in from San Diego for all 3 nights, psyched for the shows and to meet everyone!

Spritzenhaus... which evening?
A buddy and I are flying in from Montana for the shows and soundcheck. It's his first time in NYC. My second time around Williamsburg.

Pre-partying at Torst if anyone is in the area..... Hey man, I recognize you from your profile pic. I'm the guy who took the picture with you last night by the bowling lane because you're a dead ringer for my buddy who couldn't make the trip for the shows. Thanks for doing that with us.
