Really really enjoyed last night's show. I was at the Long Island show in May where Craig opened for Jason Isbell and was trying out the new stuff for the first time with some of the studio guys, and it was a huge transformation to a touring band operating at full speed. Ditto the love for the muscled-up version of Terrified Eyes, really was a highlight of the set. Mission Viejo is my favorite LP song, so hearing that for (likely) the only time in my life was particularly special.

Good god they were all so good last night in NYC ! Does anyone know the guitarists name ? Pretty sure it was Haroun or Harun. No idea about his last name. He was very good. Last night, from my memory he played 5 songs from CHFE and all of FITF except for Roman Guitars and Saint Peter. Opened with a mostly acoustic version of Maggie and the last song before encores was a full band version of the same song. Also did Jeremiah's Blues, Certain Songs and one or two others that I didn't know. I really like CHFE, but after last night I'm wondering if it might have been better to record it like they played those songs last night - as straight up guitar rock songs. Terrified Eyes was great, but all of the CHFE songs that he played sounded really good last night. The other ones were Jackson, Apollo Bay, Honolulu Blues and Western Pier. I don't think it was a sellout, but pretty close to it. Maybe a little mellower crowd than for a Hold Steady show, but still a lot of fun.

The space noises the guitarist got during Certain Songs gave me crazy chills

I know opinions are opinions and aren't really right or wrong, but this particular opinion is objectively correct. Terrified Eyes - oh, man. What a song. As much as I loved CHFE - and as interesting (and possibly necessary) as it was to see Craig break away from straight up rock, seeing them in these live arrangements makes me want quality recordings to piece together a CHFE live Uptown Controllers album.
