Saw them in Grand Rapids, and I gotta admit the band was pretty tight.
Since we were in Michigan, CF's special subject for the night was Kiss, and he delved into that in some detail. Played about 80% of FITF (Did not play St Peter.) Played about 60% of CEFH (Did not play New Friend Jesus.) One THS Song and One Lifter/Puller song, I think.

I saw Craig and the Uptown Controllers on Halloween in Pittsburgh. Or should I say, I saw Paul Stanley and the Paul Stanleys on Halloween - the whole band was wearing Paul Stanley face paint, which was an hilarious image.
I know I'm not exactly an unbiased reviewer, but man was I impressed. I did not think they would ROCK as hard as they did. They played three special Halloween songs - covers of "I Walked with a Zombie" by Roky Erickson, "Werewolves of London", and "Running With the Devil". It was as awesome as you'd expect.
A new song they played that hasn't appeared on their setlists so far this fall was "Terrified Eyes". That's one of my favorite CHFE songs, and wow did the live arrangement rock. I missed the CHFE tour so I don't know if it sounded the same, but what they played did not sound like the album version, but was really sweet. Edit: actually I just listened to a YouTube video of "Terrified Eyes" from the CHFE tour, and the version they're playing now is definitely different. It was loud and de-countrified. It might have been my favorite song of the night.

Unbeatable lyrics in that song: "He's the hairy handed gent, who ran amok in Kent" "I saw a werewolf drinkin' a pina colada at Trader Vic's And his hair was perfect"

Have the shows been decently attended? One review for the Albany show mentioned the lackluster attendance...

Well, thanks to this thread I just got tickets for this Friday's show in New York. Just starting to get into the new album, but love Terrified Eyes, so hopefully he'll do that one.

Have the shows been decently attended? One review for the Albany show mentioned the lackluster attendance... I can only speak to the Pittsburgh show, but it was a tiny, tiny club and it was pretty well-attended, I'd say. It was smooshed like sardines packed, but there was a raucous group of people. I'm terrible at guessing, but I'd estimate there were maybe 75-100 people there. I believe the venue holds 125-150. Also a guy in a hotdog costume, cause it was Halloween and all.

Club Cafe is located in my favorite part of Pittsburgh. Love the Carson strip of bars/restaurants... the sweet part of the city, for sure.

The hotdog costume guy cracked me up. He yelled Killer Parties like 4-5 times.

Great show last night in Baltimore. Small crowd. Ottobar had maybe 1/3-1/2 of the main floor filled, but that seems about right in terms of past crowd sizes I'm reading here, since their whole place can hold about 600 (I'm assuming this includes the bar area towards the back).
Much more of a rock show than I anticipated, considering the more moody vibe of the record, which was a pleasant surprise. I'd read here that was the case, but couldn't imagine it. bobsacamano is right, too - that version of Terrified Eyes was fucking awesome. He kicked off the set with Maggie on acoustic, and ended the band's set with the full version. I liked the acoustic version better than the album version (though I still love the album's track, don't get me wrong), but the full band version live was truly a sight and sound. Great way to book-end it. Then he stayed on with his guitarist and did Certain Songs.
Overall, it was a good mix of CHFE and FITF. Has he played Roman Guitars at all this tour?
Also, I don't think anybody's mentioned it on here, but Esme Patterson: wow. I generally find listening to new music live a little frustrating - probably something about letting my guard down and allowing something new to affect me - but man she was killer. I'd never heard her, but ended up getting her stuff after the set.

OH! I totally wanted to mention Esme Patterson. I was SUPER impressed, and also ended buying her album. Like you I tend to be a little dismissive of CF/Hold Steady opening acts (I chalk it up to being too excited for the main event), but was enthralled by the whole set. Good taste, Mr. Finn.

He's been opening with Christine from the setlists I've seen. Posted last night's on setlist.fm.
These guys are killing the rockers from both albums and Craig was pretty tight on the electric last night.

Just echoing what everyone else has already said. The band is fucking wonderful. Esme Patterson was a really pleasant surprise. The rocker songs really ROCK with this lineup. "Certain songs" sounded like space rock tonight. I had such a blast. ❤️

Dunno if it's been done at the other shows but they did a great arrangement of "jeremiahs blues" tonight. Don't know how I kept my shit together in a set that had that, "Sarah calling from a hotel", and "Dennis and billy"

I couldn't attend the Toronto show because I had tickets for the Buffalo Bills game the next day. My friend mentioned to Craig that I wished I could have been there when Craig pulled out a Minnesota Vikings themed postcard. He signed it for me:
"Dear Sean: Fuck you! Go Vikings. Craig Finn"
My buddy said he was laughing hard the whole time.
I love Craig (and New Rider too!).

He kicked off the set with Maggie on acoustic, and ended the band's set with the full version. Cool! Is he doing that every night? Not based on setlists I've seen. He must've had a premonition that song has a tendency to bring me to tears (It didn't that night - I was in too good a place - but I noticed my girlfriend side-eyeing me during both versions to see how I was haha.)
