I guess we got an answer (sort of) on Facebook: "Triskaidekaphobes beware: The February 13 party performance marks our 113th show in the past 13 months and is on Friday, February 13. Given the extreme outburst of gargantuan rock in support of Teeth Dreams, we will be putting our collective feet up on the table and taking a well-deserved breather for the remainder of 2015. Easily bored, each of us has already confirmed plans for how we’re going to fill up our time during the year. Craig is going to become a captain’s apprentice on the Staten Island Ferry; Tad is going to Bob Bondurat’s stunt driving school; Steve will be forming a Van Halen cover band; Galen will be finishing courses to become a UN interpreter; Bobby is going to move to Mexico to commence his Lucha Libre ascendancy. We all want to thank our fans around the world that helped make these last 13 months some of the greatest of our career." Love this. Bobby would kick ass! "El Baterista" !!

"A Slight Discomfort" would've been a perfect last song Wasn't it, like, meant to be? I thought they said "Oaks" was?

No, no, no, no and NO!
Thou liest, thou jesting monkey, thou!
They will be back, refreshed and raring to go.
Damn right they'll rise again.

The crucial question nobody has yet asked: What era of Van Halen will Steve's band be covering? Dave? Sammy? That other dude? Nobody's asked because there's only one era of Van Halen that matters. Come on now.

Nobody's asked because there's only one era of Van Halen that matters. Come on now. Mostly agree, though I have a soft spot for the first couple of Van Hagar records-- they were the first big show I went to, up at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, with some friends on my high school soccer team. Fall of 1988 (William Butler Yeats didn't make it to rural Central New York). There would be some ironic cachet to forming a band dedicated to covering the Gary Cherone era, though. You know, if anybody knew any songs that version of Van Halen had recorded...

Woah! Woah! Woah! Nice shootin' Tex. Yes there is a change in the 'vibe' around THS. The glory run into HIW is well in the past. Teeth Dreams is a different animal. Should The Ramones have not made anything after End Of A Century? Or Mondo Bizarro? Of course they should.
I'm hoping the next THS record has more of their famous hardcore influence. Heavier riffs and more righteous ire. Think Bruce and Morello doing High Hopes or latter day Dropkick Murphys. This could go so many exciting ways.
And I won't hear anything against 5150, OU812 or For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Those albums have some gems on them.
Stephano OUT!

the Ramones definitely had some great songs after End of the Century, but no great albums. I've tried to get into the 80s and 90s records a few times and nothing ever fully clicks.
I couldn't possibly care less about Van Halen.

Wasn't it, like, meant to be? I thought they said "Oaks" was? Shit, my mistake - I completely misread. I thought we were talking about Oaks.

Leeds/Reading festival this year would be awesome! Would also love a B-sides album as many have said, but if they did take time to recharge after a busy year it would be easy to understand.

Not entirely Hold Steady related, but I would love to see a vinyl reissues of the Lifter Puller catalog. The first two were, as far as I know, only released on CD, the same goes for Entertainment and Arts EP. The digital compilation Slips Backwards should also be released on a physical format.

Doc, you get many bonus points for a) Super-inspired member name, and b) One of the very few people I've seen properly use "I couldN'T care less" in the last 30 years.
