Guys! Howard has asked me to let people know that that he has a spare ticket. Anyone want it? Face value x If it's still going, I would love it like my firstborn child (perhaps a slight exaggeration). I'll message you now, but understand if there's a regular forum goer who wants it too!

OK...scene report.
Wow. What a day, what a night, what a gig!
Got to London so much easier than usual (Bank Holiday), parked right outside venue early, bumped into Bobby unloading his gear, chatted to him for a bit (I know, drummer fangirling). Got the story on his black eye.
Got the tube over to Hyde Park, met up with Stringer, Muzzleofbees and his clan, Bigontheinside, Alane, Ros, The Sea and Eric. Spent a few lovely hours lazing about in the park, listened to Stringer playing and singing (voice on top form my friend) and Bigonetheinside playing, singing and fast, fast rapping (this guy is amazing - think English version of Flight of the Concords).
Amused, bemused and inspired passers by. Parakeets, frisbees and poodles.
Got to the venue (small room!) just as support finished. Took up position front and centre. Not as many Unified Scene shiRts as I might have hoped for - were you guys all incognito? Wore mine for the first time with such pride.
From then on it was just joy, heat and intensity.
In terms of setlists, then I'm sure someone with a better short-term memory than me will provide soon! However, the first four / five songs were just relentless. The new material fitted seamlessly and sounded great live. The band were on form, looking like they were having a blast, especially Craig. Tad and Selvidge have really gone up a gear and are working off each other so much more now.
I am ashamed to admit that for the first time of my life, I had to back off the front of a gig! By the time they played Hoodrat, it just started to get a little too aggressive - I don't mind lots of bouncing and pushing, but when guys are starting to shove people over and people are going down to the floor, that's my lot! OK, OK, maybe I'm just too old!! Muzzleofbees and I retired to the back for air and water and watched the remainder of a blistering set, then I just couldn't help myself and went back up front again for the encore.
It got crazy when Craig crowd-surfed - you should've seen Tad's face when Craig and the crowd carrying him nearly toppled the speaker stacks! Suffice it to say that Constructive Summer made my evening and then Killer Parties ("so much joy") ended it all so emotionally for everyone.
As always with THS gigs, it was such a lovely day / night.
Good to meet Mr & Mrs Alexondrums and to see Howard again. Never seen so many matching Stay Positive tattoos!
Great music, good friends. Joy.
I just about drove home all the way to Swansea, though had to stop lots as was so tired. Today my hearing isn't as bad as it would usually be, though the rest of my body feels like I've been brawling.
Thank you to the Scene. Thank you The Hold Steady.
Let's do it all again eventually.

Nice review of the gig Delboydrums, although unfortunate typo about the Unified Scene SHIRTS!!! It was a great gig with huge energy from the stage & in the crowd. The new stuff worked well & the slower stuff helped everyone pace themselves. Lots of songs crammed into 90 minutes, with many highlights (Spinners, Massive Nights etc) Very sweet moment during 'Constructive Summer' when Tad & Steve raised their guitars up in salute at the line 'raise a toast to Saint Joe Strummer.' The Clash had strong connections to West London, so to see that gesture in that room gave me a tingle up the spine.
Fantastic gig, the best frontman & live band around, hope you all enjoyed.
Drive By Truckers @ the Shepherd's Bush Empire a week today should be another good one (first time live for me).

Rough setlist from memory:
I Hope This Whole Thing Didn't Frighten You Ask Her For Adderall Chips Ahoy! Stuck Between Stations Big Cig The Weekenders Almost Everything Rock Problems Magazines The Ambassador Barfruit Blues Multitude of Casualties Spinners Your Little Hoodrat Friend Southtown Girls How A Resurrection Really Feels – Citrus! Massive Nights Constructive Summer Hot Soft Light Stay Positive Killer Parties
Crowd was very lively, a tiny bit too much pushing etc for me but nothing too bad, and it was all in a positive way as far as I saw. It was great to see everyone responding so well to the new stuff too; you don't usually see crowds go nuts for a song that's only been out a couple of months. I lost my shoe for a few seconds as a song ended, just managed to get it on before the next one started – if I didn't I might never have seen it again! Almost got kicked in the face by Craig when he crowdsurfed, not sure how I missed him come into the crowd, he was just suddenly there. He seemed to be having an especially great time last night, even more so than usual.
Thanks for the kind words delboydrums, truly means a lot!

I've got a big old bruise on my knee and my back's aching like buggery but man, if that wasn't the best Hold Steady gig I've seen since 2008. Such a good setlist (Chips Ahoy into Stuck between Stations was marvellous), and the intimacy of the venue made it so much more atmospheric than the last couple of HS shows I've seen. Great stuff!

Absolutely awesome gig last night, got to the venue about 10 mins before the band came on, was in the bar/cafe adjoining Bush Hall for a bit before that having a drink, ended up watching the whole set upstairs in the small bar there. Sound was fantastic, and it was really cool to watch the crowd going nuts too. Must've been hot down there as, when the breeze blowing in from outside went, it was like a wall of heat coming through the opening on the balcony!
Think that might be the best I've seen them, all seemed really into it, Craig especially. Think doing the solo thing for him and the various issues that they've had has given them a real love for being up there again, long may it continue.
Great set, was surprised that we didn't get a couple more from the new album, but perhaps this was part album promo/part 10th anniversary Euro gig? Killer Parties to end is just as it should be though, and Resurrection when I was expecting them to go off for the encore. Just awesome.

So much fun. I think it was the hotest, tightest, sweatiest gig I've been to. And there was such an intensity, both on stage and in the crowd. It felt really special. Thanks to everybody for participating! Really nice to meet some of you guys.
Back home in Norway a few minutes ago. Tomorrow's gonna be tough.

Wow, awesome gig, was close enough to the front to be bouncing along but just behind the guy who was getting a bit carried away and shoving people to the ground so managed to avoid that! Great set, the band were on top form. Weird moment of the evening was eating in the Dining Rooms next door when a guy came in and started walking up to tables, looking a people one at a time and saying "you're dead", "you're dead" to them, before heading into the kitchen followed by a couple of the staff sprinting after him and escorting him off the premises, past Tad and a couple of other guys who had been dining there along with Steve. Think I saw him at the gig later - was it one of you?!

Thanks for posting the video so quickly, I was hoping someone would. Re the guy pushing people over......well he didn't touch my six foot plus frame, strangely enough. Would he like to out himself on here??? People didn't go there to get hurt after all.

The bridge on that Frighten You vid is why I fucking love this band. The explosion of guitars, and the entire crowd + off-mic Craig singing "SOMETHING TO PROVE!!!!!!!" at 3:22 ... it's like Craig is calling out the audience and everyone totally feeds off of it and challenges him back. Just amazing.

Just amazing. Very true. I noticed several times during the show that I could hear the crowd singing the words ABOVE the volume of the band, & I was towards the back! A truly great night, the buzz as the lights went down before the band appeared was magical.

I've been thinking about this night constantly this week. I think this is the first concert in many years where those feelings from the first shows I went to, was evoked. The feeling inside that little room was just something really special. I've seen Hold Steady in four different countries, at festivals and in clubs, alone, with friends or with fellow fans. But I've never felt everything come together in a way it did on monday. So thank you, guys - both the band and the fantastic people in front of the stage. Let's do it again some time soon.
