Already saw one go for 48 bucks + shipping on eBay today, damn. I wound up getting a copy, pretty excited to hear this. Hoping I can hear it online somewhere though.

The funny thing about ebay: I saw the Brother Ali Shadows on the Sun picture double disk set go for 60 bucks today while it was STILL IN STOCK online at fifthelement for 20 bucks (actually BEFORE I BOUGHT MY COPY).
People are really, really not careful with their money on this stuff.

The piano accents are unreal. The dual guitars are unreal. Craig's vocal echo is unreal. The full-length, studio-cut version of Bear and the Maiden Fair is even pretty good especially compared to the 1:15 we heard on Game of Thrones. Also, if someone could take a stab at the lyrics, that would be mega... Don't you get tired of revelation songs? 1988 was a long time ago Your uptown friends came by the bar last night They tried to take away the stereo Wednesday night I saw you ridin' 'round with Walter We all know what you were lookin' for Your uptown friends came by the bar last night They wanna know if I know where you are I said you said you'd been thinkin' Thinkin' about trying to take a break They said they heard that you've been staying on Columbus between 28th and Lake I didn't know what to say I did not know how to play it Doing dishes in the kitchen, I had the first of many visions I see trouble for the both of us The cops stopped by when I was opening up This whole thing seems kinda dangerous They said they came to the place you're staying You went out the window, and since then no one's seen you I wish that you'd think about your daughter 'Cause o girl needs her father ridin' 'round with Walter I know the bar isn't safe, but we should probably get together We should probably get our stories straight 'Cause if they take you away, this time I don't think that I can wait for you

Now, as someone who sees reference to Holly et al. even in songs that don't explicitly mention them, does anyone else feel like this is a clear Sapphire song? Visions in the kitchen certainly match her description, and Criminal Fingers is in line with her insistence in Yeah Sapphire that someone get clean. If so, that raises even more questions and connections. Is the unnamed father the narrator of Hot Soft Light (Lake and Columbus), and does that mean he does go on to get clean ("straight since the cinco de Mayo"), and how likely is it that it's Gideon ("cutting off all my hair"/Cityscape Skins)? Gideon being a father would certainly be a huge revelation - and does that make Sapphire the mother?

Just picked up a copy from Last Shop Standing in Plymouth, UK. They had 3 copies in! Seems bizarre that some places get multiple copies whilst others get none.
Annoyingly, my record player is out of action at the moment so will have to wait to hear it!

I'm thinking that after the dust settles from the RSD mad scramble there should be plenty of copies to go round. If you look at the Heaven Is Whenever RSD release (edition of 600) now goes for around $30 when it was initially going for $100-200. Admittedly this was an album that would be released on vinyl soon after anyway, but it also had less than half the 1,500 copies of Criminal Fingers.
So I'm going to hold off going for ebay copies from scumbag scalpers. Bidding against other fans only encourages them and drives up prices. Wait a few weeks/months and then have a look at ebay prices to see if they are reasonable.
I hate that RSD has become a bunch of scalpers who've never set foot in a record store before screwing over fans, the bands and the record shop owners and so I'm not going to pay any excessive amounts to encourage it.
I hope I won't have to wait that long to hear the tunes, but if I do then so be it, it's better then supporting that kind of behaviour.
Sorry, rant over.

And that's why RSD stinks

I still think the good outweighs the bad insofar as it benefits record stores, which is the primary purpose of the event. People scalp everything- tickets, records whatever people are willing to pay extortionate prices for. So I reckon it is also up to the fans to collectively put their foot down and refuse to pay massively inflated prices for these things. Then their value goes down and the scumbag vultures stop circling. All this is wishful thinking obviousl; I'm moaning on an internet forum and so fully expect immediate policy reforms across the board in RSD matters, vigilant vetting of RSD practices and removal of ebay RSD auctions as a result of this post. It couldn't hurt for shops to come up with ways to limit what ends up on ebay mind.

Simple solution: more in-store events, less overpriced and needlessly limited items

Gideon being a father would certainly be a huge revelation - and does that make Sapphire the mother? Nowah, I've got to disagree with your interpretation here. I guess I'm of the opinion that although Craig's lyrics for different songs are very self referential (there's a thread about this somewhere, and I absolutely love this aspect of THS' lyrics), I don't view the entire catalogue as this massive web of lyrical connections that continues to unfold with each successive release. For example, the "visions in the kitchen" line from Criminal Fingers... to me it's a stretch to hypothesize that Craig's talking about Sapphire just because he uses the word "visions". Is it possible? Sure, I guess. But I treat Craig's across-album writing with a bit more independence. Also I don't think this diminishes him as a writer at all. In fact, I kind of prefer thinking of the catalogue as not entirely interwoven and connected. The exception to my opinion would be Separation Sunday and specific subsequent references to the characters on the album (e.g. First Night).

not trying to be a jerk, but i don't have a youtube or soundcloud account and i don't know if it'd be appreciated by the band. also, i hate how streaming audio sounds.

Tad has responded to me the couple times I've tweeted him, but I didn't hear from him when I asked if a streaming version would be available...
