A few years ago I stumbled upon a high quality recording of a full THS show. It was sponsored by some beer company. About every few months I've tried to find it again, and I just can't. Does anyone have any more details that may aid in my search, or possibly a link to the video?
As someone who's never been to a live show for anyone (except a random punk-type festival thing in Reno eight years ago), the video really helped to capture the live experience for me. It's wonderful, and I'd love to be able to share it with others.

If you're willing to shell out $10 I really love their Artists Den show. It's heavy on Stay Positive and Separation Sunday and Craig is extremely blotto. theartistsden.com/theholdsteady

It was an outdoor or very large theatre show with significantly less camera-jerking-around than the Artists Den show...
Sorry for not being able to give more detail; it was about two years ago that I found it.

Mike: I was at a show in April 2011 I think at the house of blues, cleveland. This show was professionally recorded and produced as part of a Jim Beam whiskey promotion. For a while I was able to see it at this site www.jimbeam.com/live-music-series/the-hold-steady. BE VERY CAREFUL THOUGH - in attempting to help you our here, I went to this site, which is through Jim Beam all right, and when I clicked a box to access I was attacked by a virus which fortunately it appears my anti virus software fended off. But yea, someplace, the Jim Beam folks have an awesome show which I attended.

I never bothered to extract the audio and split it up to mp3's. I just preserved it for archival reasons. Here is a link for those interested. www.multiupload.nl/I03VD61KH9

You are a wonderful person. Spending this chilly, flu-laden evening watching an amazing live show and eating some wings. Thank you so much =D

So I know this is a hackneyed and sore subject amidst the Scene-sters... but I'll say it anyway...
As much as I loved this HoB vid performance... goddamn, it reminded me how much I miss Franz.

You know, he's great. But if he had stayed and continued doing the same piano thing he had done previously (as he himself feared, having stated that he's done all he could/wants to in their direction), I would have been pretty disappointed.
I'd rather have Heaven Is Whenever than a second Stay Positive, even if that's only because I want the band to stay moving. I like the latter more (as most here do), but I think Franz's departure is a big part of what separates the two sonically (although not necessarily in terms of quality).
I also think that leaving was the right move if he wasn't having fun anymore, to keep the joy in things.
(I don't mean this as a disagreement; I miss him, too. I just think the topic deserves a little digging once it's brought up.)

I think when people talk about the pros and cons of Franz leaving, they forget to mention how good his solo work is...

Plus, Steve is such a great player and he and Tad bounce off each other really well... almost like a competitive vibe on-stage, which is very cool. It'll be interesting to see how the new tunes are affected by Steve's involvement in the writing process. But whenever I hear Stations or Chips or Chicago or Sequestered or even Multitude without keys, I realize how important Franz was to layering those tracks, emphasizing melody, etc. He elevated those tracks from "great" to "special", and that's what I miss about those tunes in the current THS incarnation. I'm not lamenting the fact that things have changed... I'm glad they did, quite frankly... I'm just simply expressing how important a factor Franz was in allowing me to fall in love with this band in the first place.
