we're a few months in at this point, what's everyone been into that's new? right now my favorites are probably the new pissed jeans and waxahatchee LPs. two fairly different ends of the punk spectrum, but both really brought their A game for these albums. other cool stuff:
new off with their heads atoms for peace eat skull - III screaming females - chalk tape nuclear santa claust - order of the new age paint branch - i wanna live veronica falls - waiting for something to happen my bloody valentine - mbv eels - wonderful, glorious new order - lost sirens how to destroy angels - welcome oblivion
the paint branch record was a nice surprise. its 2 guys who used to be in q and not u. they're doing something fairly close to CSNY now. it had to grow on me but now i really like it!

Night Beds – Country Sleep Frightened Rabbit – Pedestrian Verse Villagers – {Awayland}. Strong contender for album of the year here imo
Also really digging this Uncluded song, a collaboration between Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson...
Looking forward to the new Watsky album a lot, there's a stream out but I'm waiting for my pre-order to arrive. The cd case folds into a castle! He released this which gives me goosebumps:
Shame some of the other songs he's released sound overproduced. Still, it's the lyrics that are the key with Watsky.

The official Record Store Day release list went up not long ago. As a relatively new record buyer (not a collector, I only buy things I want to listen to), any suggestions on what I should be getting my hands on?

Avoid RSD. Go to record stores regularly and just dig through. Grab what interests you

If you guys are sleeping on John Moreland's 'In the Throes,' you're doing it wrong.
That is all.

2013 has been a decent year. These are my favorites: Neko Case - The Worse Things Get... Stein Torleif Bjella - Heim for å døy Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City Mikal Cronin - II Håkan Hellström - Det kommer aldrig va över för mig I guess you guys don't listen to all that much music sung in norwegian. But I think you should take your time to check out the aforementioned Stein Torleif Bjella. In Norway, he's mainly praised for his lyrics, but the music is great as well. Would be nice to hear what some of you think of it. None of the latest album tracks is available on Youtube, so I'll post two of his best from the past two records. The new album (Heim for å døy) is available on Spotify. Heidersmenn (2009): www.youtube.com/watch?v=STRcx3JN4w4Romantikken gjer meg sjuk (2011): www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GjEhStjO7IKamerat mot kamerat (live in norwegian television): www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKH0tKIueDo

i like the first half of Old way more than the second. it's a cool record, way more interesting production than XXX, but the songs don't grab me as much
