i could've sworn there was a thread about this song already, but it's probably super old and i'm too lazy to search. i'm on yet another kick where i just listen to live recordings of this song over and over again. it's the greatest. one of their best ever, probably. what do you think the odds are that it might turn up on the next LP? probably pretty low? but they still play it live now and then!
argh i just wanna hear a studio recording of this

What's your favorite recording? I guess I listen to the iTunes version just because the sound is so crystal clear. But, that's acoustic (and great). Any advice on the best electric version?

i listen to the itunes session the most since, like you said, its the best quality. the one from the Crocodile is pretty awesome. i usually go back and forth between that and the Square Room recording when i want to hear it electric.

I would be soooo happy if this song made it onto a record... preferably the next one.

Is this the song with the couplet "Via Dolorosa / It started with mimosas" ? If so I definitely want to hear it on the next THS record.
(Or Craig Finn solo record. I'm easy.)

while we're on the subject, it's pretty weird that only one b-side from HIW was released, right? didn't they mention recording a lot more than what eventually came out?

I remember reading that Tad has mixed feelings over releasing tracks that didn't make it to the album... I don't really understand why you wouldn't want to release them though, if they're good. On a side note, I always thought the acoustic version of Separate Vacations was way better, so I'm not that bothered about getting a studio version. I'm more interested in getting Going On A Hike, and Criminal Finger. I don't understand why they released Touchless when they could've released one of those... Touchless is pretty meh if you ask you me

ah, yeah, i forgot about Touchless. i think because i don't have it on any physical format, i forget that it's real haha.
i understand not releasing songs as part of an album if they don't fit for whatever reason, but a lot of bands have some of their best material as b-sides. release it all! or, hell, at least issue an official outtakes collection already.

Maybe they're waiting until they have enough for something like this:

wasn't "just saying" written specifically for that movie?

And, I think you've answered your own question by calling these extra tracks "meh." They're saving the good ones for the next record. By the way, we've been waiting 3 years, isn't it time to announce something?

history has shown that bands aren't always the best judges of what their best songs are. release it all and let the audience decide!
i'm still holding out hope that Separate Vacations or Going on a Hike might be on the next record. i could understand if they played them years ago, left them off the album, and then abandoned them completely. but they still pop up at shows, so the band isn't finished with them.
