I felt trepidation when you said they've cut the breakdown from Stations BUT you do all make it sound amazing!

Loving Rob Sheffield's tweets (sadly only one per night) of the two shows. Woke up to this...
"Chips Ahoy" guitar break at tonight's ace Hold Steady show totally sounded like "Spirit of Radio" #onelikestobelieveinthefreedomofhoodrats

Notably missing from the two night stand:
A Slight Discomfort -- I think they've only done this once in NYC/area, and that was unfortunately before the album came out so I didn't fully appreciate :/
Soft in the Center -- Same story.
Our Whole Lives -- ever played?

Remarkable set. One of my favorites, no doubt. Great crowd energy, band seemed to be having a great time. Keys or no keys, they still rule. Craig noted that they played their first show there eight years ago to the day when it was North Six on January 31, 2003. Interesting that they're now closer to that lineup than they were for most of their existence. Full circle. Adderall The Swish Magazines Rock Problems Hurricane J Cattle Barfruit Sweet Part... This is why you should let your friends talk you into stuff like this. No regrets.

eliminated the whole section. lyrics and all. from '...in the mississippi river' right to 'she was a real good kisser...'. weird. Well that kinda blows.

this was i think the eighth time i saw 'em -- and probably my favorite show to date. the crowd made it for me. i am always so down to dance (and drink and pogo), and rarely does one encounter such a high-energy soft spot right up at the front. don't know how many of you me and sam and nicki met/crashed into but ... it was good vibes all around. man, i have no regrets about reckless monday-night denial of responsibilities. i just kinda wish there had been a little joke about jamaica to go with it. i was all worried they were going to close with southtown girls, which is definitely the weakest last-track, in my opinion. but everything gets played. anyway, hi. thanks so much for being great.

So mad I didn't go to this. Would love to hear First Night sans keys. Can anyone direct me to a recording of the show? Thanks!

For those there both nights...which night did you prefer? Night 1 was "fresher" -- there were no down parts where you heard the same song two nights in a row. They did an awesome job of mixing up the sets, though -- only about 10 songs were duplicated.

My favorite show so far! Great meeting you guys on line, however, I think 5:30 was uncalled for! We got there at 7:15 and did just fine!! Are you posting your pics anywhere? I usually bring a camera to shows, but skipped this one, you must have gotten some great shots from your vantage point. Dave

I felt the same about the energy of the band and the crowd, and the bliss going on down front! I was up front between Craig and Tad, and it was all good fun and beautiful vibes, no pushing, nobody scrambling to get up front, lots of hugging and jumping and strangers holding hands. For one night, we're all lifelong friends. The buzz and warmth I get from these show lasts for days, and blows away this insane winter!

Wow, so no keys it is. Weird and exciting. I have seen them four times, two times with Franz and two times with Steve/Dan. So the Dublin gig will be my first keyless experience with Hold Steady. I kind of look forward to it, but I'm a bit sad that my two friends, which don't know the band at all, won't see them with a keyboard player. I think it might have been easier digging them, seeing them for the first time, with keys rather than without.
How did Stevie Nix play out without keys?

Stevie Nix into First Night was different, but great. More guitar, don't remember Craig putting his down at all, and Tad and Steve had a few great guitar battles, especially on DJ.

I'll work on getting my video of First Night up now.
I was not the girl who passed out @ the first show, but the ER was an after bar that night.
