"I just can't sympathize with your Rock and Roll Dilemmas..." Doesn't quite roll off the tongue.

Million dollar question for the board..... anybody know if Steve and/or Dan recorded this with the rest of 'em? x2. I still don't understand if they're actually part of the band. But if this isn't an offcut from HIW I'd wager that they played on it. Oh, and according to this, the song was written specifically for the film finance.yahoo.com/news/Chop-Shop-and-Atlantic-iw-717159043.html?x=0

I heard the song in San Diego, but it wasn't named yet. They were playing it during the soundcheck, and one of the venue staff let me in to listen to it, because, as he said, "You're listening to it anyway. You may as well come in."
It sounded awesome.
Before anyone bothers asking, I have some recorded on my phone from outside the venue. I won't post it out of respect for the band.

No disrespect to your decision not to post, but don't bands make music for sole purpose of it being heard?
EDIT: By the way, I just had the toughest time not posting "just saying..." after that question.

They do. But I kinda feel like it would be disrespectful to post a live cut of something before they have a chance to release it however they plan to. It's what happened with Stay Positive, with the leaks, and that really hurt album sales. I can't imagine all the playing of Heaven is Whenever assisted album sales during the leadup to the album release.
Besides the only complete cut (cause they kept stopping and restarting) is kinda...bad audio. And it's probably not how the band would want you to hear it anyway.
They recorded the actual song in LA right after the 4th and B show, according to what Steve said they were gonna do.

I should probably look when the movie comes out, so I can get the soundtrack. It's gotta be soon, right? The previews are on ALL THE TIME.

Why post the fact that you recorded it in your phone? Seems rather childish.

anyone else find it weird that they recorded a song specifically for the movie? i mean lets face it, based on the previews I've seen...this movie looks absolutely horrible/cheesy.

Huey Lewis and The News did it with The Power of Love.
One of their most well known songs.

You can definitely tell this was a tossed-off song done for a quick pay-check. More power to them, as long as the next album is great I don't have too many qualms with the band making a shitty song for a shitty movie.

I dunno, 99...it's not that bad. It's got "The Smidge" vibe with the crunchy guitars we've known to love....I'll give it a few more listens.

There's a preview in iTunes.
I don't think it's that bad, honestly. I dig it. Just sayin'.

...Sounded much better live than the MP3 preview on iTunes. IMHO.
Still what I figure from what was said, this song was way rushed as a kind of money/exposure grab. In San Diego, which was the day before they went in to start recording, Tad said it was only the second time they had actually played it together.
And from what I heard from 99rockproblems, they weren't really that pleased with how it came out themselves, iirc.
