THS plays the scene of that one semester of college that I want back. Otto's is a nice club with a bunch of college kids from Northern Illinois University (and the surrounding areas) who will appreciate seeing the dudes in their town: www.ottosdekalb.com/Tickets here: www.yourticketstand.com/tickets/346

Yeah! I'll definitely be there! Was bummed when i found out i couldnt make it to their Vic show on the 1st. But this will be an even better venue IMO (cheaper by almost $15 a ticket too)

You were the guy at the Vic show, right? That's definitely a bummer. Can't they make an exception for locals? I remember standing in line at DBT and it wrapped around all the walls downstairs. There were a few doors that would probably make easy entrances if let in, but I don't know if they were alarmed or not. I also think they card people after that.

Yeah, I remember complaining loudly about it at that show. Anyway, I called Otto's and it turns out you can get in with a parent, so it sounds like my old man will be getting his first taste of The Hold Steady.

Just about to leave for the show. This will be #6 for me. It's the first time for my dad, and doesn't really know THS that much, but loves all the bands that have influenced them (Lizzy, Bruce, Zeppelin, The Band, etc). Can't wait!

Hey, I brought my dad with me too! He'd never even heard of the Hold Steady before, but now that the show's over he's talking about how "they were fantastic!" and how it's the best concert he's ever seen. I guess he got converted tonight.
Show rocked though. They hit the trifecta of Most People Are DJs, You Gotta Dance and Girls Like Status which are all songs I hadn't heard them play before tonight. They get better every time.
edit: yborcityroofing, were you wearing a Jaeger hoodie?

I saw 'em in Iowa CIty Wednesday, which was fantastic, but tonight in DeKalb was even better. Seeing them at such a small venue was key. That balcony at Otto's is the best vantage point. If you combined Iowa City's setlist with tonight, it was prolly the best I've seen them. Lotsa "Heaven Is Whenever" stuff tonight.

The guys as usual were outstanding. The crowd overall wasn't as good as previous shows i've been too. I was in the backish with my dad during the main set, and I was the only one pogoing around me, and not many in front of me were really that into it (except right in front of the stage) until Chips Ahoy Per usual though by the time i got to the Sceners in the front during the encore, my faith in THS fans was once again renewed That encore was insanely good: Constructive-->Sequestered-->Resurrection-->Stay Positive (Oh and those pillars were ridiculous, luckily i found a good spot in between the two.)

Do you know the entire setlist? I was so excited seeing them for the first time that I completely forgot write it down. But you're right, that encore was completely sick...

Speaking of sceners, I saw a couple people in Unified Scene shirts that were being decidedly uncool. Shoving people out of the way to get in front, etc. I was pretty disappointed in that.

Anyone get the Otto's set list? I think I'm missing a few songs from what I remembered.

I don't have it, sorry. I hope it turns up though. Also, apparently Kate Winslet was at the show? Here's an article from the college paper about it. northernstar.info/dekalb_scene/article_82746e98-f5d0-11df-9a04-0017a4a78c22.html"The actress took away all the attention from the Hold Steady's set (which may have been the finest performance this town has seen in years)." I didn't even know she was there, and if I did, my behavior wouldn't have changed at all. I do not care about Kate Winslet. I do, however, care about the Hold Steady.

I didn't hear about her being there until earlier today, but I didn't really notice the crowd ignoring the band in any way. Nobody took all the attention away from anybody. Of course, I was pretty focused on the band, and not the balcony.

Stuck Between Stations Navy Sheets Bangin' Camp Massive Nights You Gotta Dance We Can Get Together Most People Are DJs The Weekenders Southtown Girls Slapped Actress -- Constructive Summer Sequestered in Memphis How a Resurrection Really Feels Stay Positive
I was lucky enough to score the set list. Strangely, the encore wasn't included. Do they just decide in an impromptu manner?
I was in the front left actually, didn't have a sweater on...
This was the 10th time I've seen them. Second time seeing "DJs!" Me and my friends all threw confetti at the beginning of the encore...
Incredible show. Can't wait 'til Chicago on Dec. 30th...

Thanks for the set list! It certainly seemed that at least Stay Positive was a last minute thing as Craig went around to everyone towards the end of Resurrection presumably telling them what to play (ala Springsteen). I was towards the right side of the stage and loved the confetti,

You're welcome...
It must have been last minute, most often they only play 3 songs in the encore, and I figured Resurrection was the closer...
It was awesome to get four!
