Twenty quid says there's no harpsichord on the next THS album. I've been waiting an awfully long time for a chance to say this, and now it can be told: The harpsichord was Tad's idea. Not dead, Franz

The Man, the Mustache, The Legend.
Hopefully the band and his path's will cross again, I don't know how hearing those Separation Sunday songs with FN will be live, but we have the magic and I'm sure it will be back again.

The harpsichord was Tad's idea. I want this on a t-shirt. All the best, my good man. See you at the solo shows, if you ever get out Midwest-way with them again.

The harpsichord was Tad's idea. So, does that mean more harpsichord on the next album?

I can say on good authority there is no acrimony. All is positive.
As fans, we obviously want things to remain the same. But I think change and growth is a necessary part of art. I for one am looking forward to the next chapter.

i'm not worried. it's gonna be different, but here's to new beginnings.

Just got home from a very long day working in London. I'm tired after leaving home at 3.20am this morning. Came on here as I often do, for a little cheering up, and saw this. I echo all of the above best wishes etc to FN - the Hardest Workin Man in Showbiz. Good luck to you fella! But............... from a purely selfish THS fan point of view................ that is some pretty fucked up shit. I'm struggling to imagine THS without the class of FN. The very Professor Roy Bittan-ness of his piano drew me to THS. I only truly realised (later) what he brought (musically) to THS when listening to Major General. What will THS live be without the suit, the hat, the tache, the toothpick, the wine, the hand gestures, the facial expressions, the vocals, the interaction with Galen, the sheer versatility of the man? ? I know they will carry on without him, and I'm sure we will carry on loving all of the other aspects of what they do, but them's some pretty big (and stylish) shoes to fill.

Twenty quid says there's no harpsichord on the next THS album. So, I get home from classes and work today around 5:30. The house is empty. Both of my roommates from the last 2.5 years are studying abroad. Our only subletter is gone to Chicago for the weekend. I check the mail and find out that my mineralogy textbook hasn't arrived, but a $292.20 heating/electric bill has arrived... Then I read that Franz has quit. Motherfuck me... Then I read your post. Thank you. Definetely needed that one. And thanks to Franz. I think I talked to him at every THS show I've been to. I've tried to model a mustache after his for the last three years of my life with only one real success. Keep putting out great music. I'll survive.

i can't really say anything that hasn't been said. thank you Franz. i know we can expect lots of great music from you. it is really going to be strange being on the left side of the audience at future shows. please drop in from time to time and let us know what is going on with you.

well that's a bummer franz was usually my favorite member to watch/stand in front of at THS shows, and the key parts always had such cool hooks
life moves on, though. thanks for everything, fn

Thanks for everything Franz, you and your amazing hooks were one of the reasons I started listening to the Hold Steady... I can't even imagine them without you.
I am excited to see where they go from here... just not to hear the old songs without keys.
I wouldn't be upset if with this next album they wear their Replacements influence on their sleeves.

Thanks to Franz for everything he did with the band, and also great to hear that he is not dead. I am interested to see what directions the band and Franz go in with their music, but it is hard to imagine a THS show without him up there.
