A complete (to my knowledge) list of US talk show appearance songs is below. They've had seven appearances so far, but there are only six unique songs as they did "Your Little Hoodrat Friend" on both Carson Daly and their first appearance on Conan. Carson Daly: Your Little Hoodrat Friend (w/substitute keyboardist) Jimmy Kimmel: Chips Ahoy Letterman: Stuck Between Stations; Sequestered in Memphis Craig Ferguson: Constructive Summer Conan O'Brien: Your Little Hoodrat Friend; Stay Positive

Official word on this is that it has been cancelled. Major bummer.

That sucks bigtime. It would have meant some very high profile exposure for the band.

Who the fuck is Al Madrigal. He's a comic. They got replaced with a comic. I guess I shouldn't complain. The Tonight show guest slot is most likely the only thing that got them out here to do the el rey gig in the first place.

Bummer!
You know, the more I think about it, it does seem like an odd time for a Tonight Show slot. Last studio album over a year ago, no tour to promote....maybe they want to save their late night mojo for the next record?
Either way, I was looking forward to it, now I may have to go to the taping because I begged for a ticket through work. And the other guests look lame. Oh well....

Damn and I just replied to a message from Pierre Bernard on Myspace. I should have asked him about that.
And, yay, for Campfire for bringing out the clip from that show FoxRox that got me into The Hold Steady.

So, what are the chances we get an official explanation from someone about why this got canceled? Was it strictly a decision by the Conan folks, or did THS pull out for some reason? I don't want to send any undeserved bad vibes to Conan.

so did anyone watch it anyway and actually see this Al Madrigal guy? i just bought tix to see Janeane Garofalo in Baltimore next month and apparently he's the opener, but I've never heard of him. since I'm bringing up comedy and going off topic anyway.....does anyone ever remember reading an interview with Craig Finn in which he said that when he first moved to NYC he was thinking of getting into improv comedy? i know i read this somewhere, but i've never heard anything else about it. being a big comedy nerd, it intrigues me. first time i ever saw THS Eugene Mirman opened for them. and they did that thing with Andy Kindler for Letterman last year. anyone know any other Hold Steady comedy connections?
