But I totally agree on Girls Like Status. It would have been a highlight on Boys And Girls, if included, and is imo one of the bands ten best songs. Same. It was the first Hold Steady song I'd ever heard. It's what alone persuaded me check out their other work.

Can I just stick up for Chillout Tent here? I love Chillout Tent.

Yeah, this list would be more accurate if it was simply called "My least favorite/favorite Hold Steady songs", because that's pretty much what it is. Exactly.

hey man i don't know why we have to bash this poor guy who's just trying to make a living writing a column, we should really all be happy they made this list, it's just a title you know, a little light banter to start a conversation and the fact that we're jumping all over this poor critic/music writer really brings me down man, you stay positive and all, if this was a thread about soccer songs it would probably be removed or locked or whatever due to the negativity of the responses. stay positive man.

I guess he didn't notice the obscene football chants thread.

were you actually there? i posted about how i didn't like them on a personal level, but it was never locked (despite the fact that i could have quite easily locked it if i'd wanted to), so it's not just an overreaction, it's simply untrue.

just being cheeky kids, do like the power thing about locking the threads though, i'm just having a laugh and was quite shocked at how fast the law was on my post, i'd add Constructive Summer to the over-rated list as well, Cutters well deserves to be on the list and the line about Cigarettes where they used to have eyes is atrocious, on the other hand Adderall should be on the under-rated list and Chillout Tent should be switched from Over to Under but then again it is just a critic's opinion and really what do i know i actually thought there were some decent songs on the Stone Roses Second Coming album...

Thats why I reposted. I guess I should quote what I was refering to. I was responding to pubmonkey's ascertain that a Football chants thread would have been locked which of course it wasn't. I also agree that a lot of those chants go way over the top. Just bust by chops because Im a Chelsea fan theres no need to talk smack about Drogba or Essien's ethnicity.

shaun, i stand corrected, been awhile since i've seen that movie or any movie for that matter... and as far as football chants i'm not one for the nasty one's either, i may hate Chelski but DD and Essien are brilliant and Lamps has been killing on my fantasy team, go on.

I agree here, Constructive Summer is badass. It was a good read, but I'm gonna stick up for Cutters, too. Stickin' up for your man? haha ;D

It is an awesome film. Did you like Spaced? Also, did you see the 20th Anniversary Empire magazine? Had these great photographs, recreating some of the best films of the last 20 years. Hang on, try and find a pic now.. www.empireonline.com/20/birthday-portfolio/6.asp

Spaced ripped off that film about a french guy who wants a greencard and the women who finds the perfect apartment but it would only be let to a married couple, they pretend to marry and eventually fall for each other: an undercurrent for all Pegg/ Frost films. That is their biggest flaw

you do realise that nick frost doesn't do the writing? pegg/wright for the films or pegg/stevenson for spaced if you're slagging off the writing.
have you actually SEEN spaced? most of it is ripping off something. that's the point of half of the funnies in there. e.g. the zombie episode, the don't look now reference, the resident evil rip offs during 'art'.. etc.

I have seen the first series, it quite funny. But watching Spaced, SotD and Hot Fuzz, the opposites attract thing gets old fast. They right really well but they fall back on the worst cliche of all.
